Electric vehicle sales in India increased across most categories in May 2026 compared to April 2026. E2W sales rose to 1,70,452 units from 1,57,294, while E3W L5 Passenger sales increased to 30,579 from 25,967. E-rickshaw sales also grew to 29,803 units from 28,145, and E4W sales reached 26,226 units, up from 25,266. E3W L5 Cargo/Goods sales increased to 3,992 from 3,299, and E-Goods Carrier sales rose to 2,062 from 1,956. However, E-cart sales declined to 7,486 units from 7,748, E-bus sales fell to 320 from 347, and the Others category decreased to 99 units from 177.

India recorded 27,03,780 EV sales from Jun 2025 to May 2026, per Vahan Dashboard data (excluding low-speed e-2Ws). Monthly sales peaked in March 2026 (2,91,667) and were lowest in May 2025 (1,86,921).

EV penetration in the two-wheeler (2W) category increased from 7.9% in April 2026 to 9.2% in May 2026.
