India’s Electric Vehicle sales trend | April 2026

Electric vehicle sales in India showed a mixed trend in April 2026 compared to March. E2W sales declined to 1,48,740 units from 1,92,405, and e-rickshaw sales dipped slightly to 28,151 from 28,936. E3W L5 Cargo/Goods also fell to 3,238 units from 3,713, while e-bus sales dropped to 347 from 559. On the other hand, E3W L5 Passenger sales increased to 25,418 units from 23,472, and e-cart sales rose to 7,742 from 7,428. E4W sales saw a marginal decline to 23,314 units from 23,806, while e-goods carriers remained almost flat at 1,887 units compared to 1,879 in March. ‘Others’ category recorded a slight increase to 177 units from 160.

India recorded 25,25,055 EV sales from May 2025 to Apr 2026, per Vahan Dashboard data (excluding Telangana and low-speed e-2Ws). Monthly sales peaked in March 2026 (2,82,358) and were lowest in April 2025 (1,69,359).

The penetration percentage of electric vehicles (EVs) in the two-wheeler (2W) category decreased from 9.8% in March 2026 to 7.8% in April 2026.

The top 3 brands for April 2026 regarding the number of electric passenger 3Ws registered are Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Ltd, Bajaj Auto, and TVS Motor.

In April 2026, the electric three wheeler goods sales were led by Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, Bajaj Auto, and Euler Motors.

In April 2026, the e-rickshaw sales were led by YC Electric, Zeniak Innovation, Terra Motors, and Hooghly Motors.

The penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) in the four-wheeler passenger car/cab segment increased from 5.3% in March to 5.8% in April 2026.

Tata Motors is the clear leader, with over 36% of the market share, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra and JSW MG Motor India.

PMI Electro Mobility sold the most electric buses in Apr 2026, followed by JBM Electric Vehicles and Switch Mobility.

Tata Motors is the clear leader with over 42% market share in e-goods carrier sales in April 2026, followed by Euler Motors and Mahindra Last Mile Mobility.
