India ICE vs EV sales | For top 2W, 3W, 4W OEMs in April 2026

In April 2026, the overall penetration of EVs in the 2W market was 7.8%. For passenger 3W L5 autos, it was 43.9%, and for cargo 3W L5 autos, it was 24.7% and for 4W, it was 5.8%. This article aims to showcase where EV sales stand compared to the overall vehicle sales in the 2W, 3W, and 4W categories.

In April 2026, the two-wheeler market continued to be dominated by ICE vehicles, with Hero MotoCorp leading overall sales (5,52,145 units), though EVs accounted for only 2.8%. Honda Motorcycle remained almost entirely ICE-driven with negligible EV contribution (0.1%). Among legacy OEMs, TVS Motor (10.2%) and Bajaj Auto (16.3%) showed relatively higher EV penetration. Meanwhile, Royal Enfield (0.04%), Suzuki (0.3%), and Yamaha remained largely ICE-focused with minimal or no EV presence. Pure EV players Ather Energy (27,034 units), Ola Electric (12,171 units), and Ampere Vehicles (6,887 units) recorded 100% EV sales.

In April 2026, Bajaj Auto led the three-wheeler passenger segment with 33,703 units, of which 26.7% were EVs. Mahindra Last Mile Mobility recorded strong electrification with 98.2% of its sales being electric. TVS Motor (58.2%) and Piaggio Vehicles (20%) also showed notable EV adoption, while Atul Auto (15.6%) remained relatively ICE-heavy. Meanwhile, pure EV players TI Clean Mobility (296 units), Mini Metro (293 units), and Omega Seiki (249 units) reported 100% EV sales, indicating a fully electric portfolio in the segment.

In April 2026, Bajaj Auto led the three-wheeler cargo segment with 5,541 units, of which 8% were EVs. Mahindra Last Mile Mobility recorded the highest EV share among legacy players at 61.9%, followed by TVS Motor (35.3%). Piaggio Vehicles (4.7%), Atul Auto (5.4%), and Baxy (7.4%) showed relatively low EV penetration. Meanwhile, pure EV players Euler Motors (251 units) and Omega Seiki (236 units) reported 100% EV sales, indicating a fully electric portfolio in the cargo segment.

In April 2026, the passenger vehicle segment was led by Maruti Suzuki India with 1,58,402 units, with EVs contributing just 0.8%. Tata Motors (14.8%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (9.8%) showed relatively higher EV adoption among large OEMs. JSW MG Motor India recorded the highest EV share at 82.6%, driven by its strong electric portfolio. Hyundai (1.1%) and Kia (1.4%) had limited EV penetration, while Toyota, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, Honda Cars India, Renault, and Nissan remained entirely ICE-focused. In the luxury segment, BMW India (20.7%) outpaced Mercedes-Benz India (4.8%) in EV share. Overall, MG Motor, Tata Motors, and Mahindra continued to drive EV adoption in the segment.

In April 2026, EV penetration in the 2W segment stood at 7.8%, down from 9.8% in March 2026 but higher than 5.5% in April 2025. In the 3W passenger segment (L5M), EV share rose to 43.9% (up from 39.5% in March and 30.9% a year ago), while in 3W cargo (L5N), it was 24.7% (down from 26.5% in March but above 23.5% last year). For 4Ws, EV penetration increased to 5.8% (vs 5.3% in March and 3.7% in April 2025). Meanwhile, goods carriers recorded 2.2% EV share, slightly up from 2.1% in March and 0.9% a year ago.
