Honda Cars India starts pan-India road testing of its upcoming electric SUV

Honda Cars India Ltd. started the pan-India public road verification testing of its battery electric SUV. The prototype is based on the Honda 0 α model shown at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. The testing marks the beginning of road trials for the company’s electric SUV programme in India.

The testing programme will evaluate the vehicle on highways, city roads, and other terrains. It will assess durability, handling, ride comfort, efficiency, reliability, and charging performance. The vehicle will also be tested in heat and monsoon conditions, as well as with different charging infrastructure. The electric SUV is planned for global launch in FY 2026–27, with India and Japan among the markets. The vehicle will be manufactured in India and exported to other markets.

Takashi Nakajima, President and CEO, Honda Cars India, said, “The start of pan-India Public Road Verification testing is a key milestone in our electrification journey. India has unique driving and climate conditions, and it is important for us to test our electric vehicle thoroughly in real-world environments. This programme reflects Honda’s global engineering strengths combined with a strong focus on local customer needs, as we prepare to introduce an electric SUV that offers reliability, comfort, and ease of use.”

HCIL’s manufacturing facility is located at Tapukara, District. Alwar, Rajasthan.
