SWITCH Mobility unveils 9-metre electric bus EiV9 at Prawaas 5.0

SWITCH Mobility Ltd., part of the Hinduja Group, has unveiled the EiV9, a 9-metre electric bus, at Prawaas 5.0 in Gandhinagar. The company said the bus is intended for city transit, employee transportation, and school mobility. It also launched its #SwitchKaro campaign to promote the adoption of electric mobility among fleet operators and businesses.

According to the company, the EiV9 is built on a new 9-metre electric bus platform and is designed to reduce the total cost of ownership for fleet operators. It is available with multiple battery pack options to suit different route and duty-cycle requirements. The bus also features regenerative braking and dual-gun CCS2 DC fast charging.

The EiV9 is powered by a Permanent Magnet Variable Reluctance (PMVR) motor with a peak output of up to 213 kW.

Commenting on the launch, Ganesh Mani, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, said “The launch of the all-new SWITCH EiV9 marks an important milestone in our growth journey as we strengthen our presence across key public and institutional mobility segments. We see strong momentum in this category, with the 9m electric bus market expected to grow at a CAGR of nearly 34% by FY30, driven by increasing demand. The EiV9 has been purpose-built to deliver what operators value most: higher efficiency, superior passenger comfort, advanced safety and lower operating costs. It represents our commitment to developing solutions that not only accelerate the adoption of electric mobility but also create tangible business value for our customers. At SWITCH Mobility, we believe the transition to cleaner transportation will be driven by practical choices that make both environmental and economic sense. This philosophy is reflected in our new #SwitchKaro campaign, which encourages fleet operators and businesses to make the switch to smarter, more sustainable mobility solutions.”

The bus includes a passenger cabin with front and rear air suspension, configurable seating layouts, USB charging ports, and pushback seats for staff transportation variants. Safety features include a Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS), disc brakes on the front and rear axles, and an electric architecture developed for commercial operations.

Alongside the EiV9, SWITCH Mobility introduced its #SwitchKaro campaign, which the company said is intended to encourage businesses and fleet operators to adopt electric mobility by highlighting operational and environmental benefits.

The company also showcased its EiV12 Intercity electric bus, designed for intercity passenger transport. The vehicle features premium reclining seats, individual charging ports, floor-mounted LFP battery packs, front and rear air suspension, and dual-gun DC fast charging.

The EiV12 Intercity also includes a pneumatic suspension driver seat, camera-based digital outside rear-view mirrors (ORVMs), a Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS), and SWITCH iON, the company’s connected vehicle platform for diagnostics, remote monitoring, and battery management.

According to SWITCH Mobility, it has deployed more than 2,400 electric buses globally, which have collectively covered over 150 million kilometres. The company also said more than 2,500 units of its IeV electric light commercial vehicles are currently in operation.
