Montra Electric opens e-SCV manufacturing plant in Chennai

Montra Electric has inaugurated a new manufacturing plant for electric small commercial vehicles (e-SCVs) in Ponneri, Chennai. The facility, operated by Montra Electric’s e-SCV division, TIVOLT Electric Vehicles Private Limited, was inaugurated by Mr. Arun Murugappan, Executive Chairman of Tube Investments of India Limited (TII), in the presence of Mr. Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director of TI Clean Mobility Private Limited (TICMPL), and Mr. Saju Nair, CEO of TIVOLT Electric Vehicles Private Limited.

The facility covers approximately 5 lakh square feet and has an annual production capacity of 50,000 vehicles. It is located near the Kolkata highway, 35 kilometers from Chennai city, to facilitate distribution and meet the demand for electric commercial vehicles. The plant is structured to promote collaboration and operational efficiency.

The plant will manufacture EVIATOR, an e-SCV with a certified range of 245 km and a real-life range of 170 km. It has a power output of 80 kW and torque of 300 Nm. The vehicle comes with an extended warranty of up to seven years or 2.5 lakh kilometers and includes telematics to optimize fleet uptime.
