Maruti Suzuki to launch 6 EV models by FY30-31
In its annual integrated report, Maruti Suzuki has announced its target powertrain mix in India for 2030-2031:
– 15% Battery Electric Vehicle
– 25% Hybrid Electric Vehicle
– 60% ICE vehicles, including CNG, Bio-gas, Flex fuel vehicles
The company revealed the concept of its first electric vehicle (eVX) at Auto Expo 2023, and it will be introduced in the market in FY 2024-25.
Highlights of Maruti Suzuki 3.0
– Company’s first BEV to be launched in India by FY 2024-25. The development of electric vehicles is proceeding at the Gujarat facility.
– Suzuki Motor Corporation has committed to R&D investment in developing six electric vehicle models that will be introduced by the Company till FY 2030-31.
– The company unveiled a mass-segment Flex Fuel prototype car in December 2022. WagonR FFV is capable of operating with ethanol blends ranging from 20% to 85% with gasoline. Its first FFV will be launched in India by 2025.
– The parent company, Suzuki, will invest in Gujarat to construct a plant for manufacturing BEV batteries.
– The Company introduced its 1st Strong Hybrid Vehicle in India in FY 2022-23.
– The Toshiba Denso Suzuki Lithium-ion Battery Gujarat Private Limited (TDSG) is India’s first lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant with cell-level localisation. TDSG is a collaboration between Toshiba, Denso and Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki sources lithium-ion battery packs used in Hybrid vehicles from TDSG.
– Maruti commenced ELV (end-of-life vehicle) recycling through its joint venture Company–Maruti Suzuki Toyotsu India Private Limited (MSTI), Noida, in FY 2021-22. Since its inception, about 1,100 tonnes of scrap generated at MSTI has been sent for further recycling at authorised recyclers. An MoU with the state of Gujarat has been signed to set up a similar unit.
– Since the introduction of its first hybrid vehicle in India in 2018, the Company has established a mechanism for the recovery and recycling of LiBs from the market and in-house sources. Customers can return end-of-life LiBs at dealer workshops throughout India. All dealer workshops have been asked to collect LiBs during service and return the same to the Company for recycling.
– The Company has recycled 12.8 tonnes of batteries through a domestic recycler. It complies with the latest Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022 and is exploring possible technologies for repurposing batteries post-completion of primary useful battery life.
