LOHUM and Altigreen partner for sustainable EV battery disposal
LOHUM, the producer of sustainable energy transition materials in India, and Altigreen, a manufacturer of commercial cargo electric vehicles in India, have announced a strategic partnership focused on tackling the challenge of sustainable battery disposal in the electric vehicle (EV) industry. The collaboration aims to promote responsible practices and reduce the carbon footprint of Altigreen’s EVs.
Under the partnership, LOHUM will recycle end-of-life batteries from Altigreen’s electric vehicles using its NEETM™ technology. This process allows for the recovery of 95% of high-purity battery raw materials that can be used to manufacture new batteries. As per the official statement, over the next three years, LOHUM aims to recycle 1 GWh of Altigreen EV cargo vehicle batteries, significantly reducing battery waste and optimizing resource utilization.
As the demand for EV batteries has risen with the growth of the EV market, there has been a corresponding increase in battery waste. To address this issue, Altigreen and LOHUM have joined forces to establish a framework for responsible battery disposal and recycling. LOHUM, registered under India’s Battery Waste Management Rules (BWMR 2022), will serve as Altigreen’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) partner.
Dr. Amitabh Saran, Founder and CEO of Altigreen, commented, “We are thrilled to partner with LOHUM to develop a comprehensive battery recycling program. At Altigreen, we believe that sustainability is at the core of our mission. This partnership will enable us to responsibly manage the end-of-life batteries from our electric vehicles, reducing waste and minimizing the environmental impact of our operations.”
Mr. Rajat Verma, Founder and CEO of LOHUM, commented, “We are excited to work with Altigreen Propulsion Labs, a company that shares our vision for a greener and more sustainable future. Through our battery recycling expertise, we aim to support Altigreen in their commitment to circular economy practices and contribute to the overall growth of the EV industry.”
The strategic partnership between Altigreen and LOHUM represents a significant step toward addressing the issue of sustainable battery disposal in the EV sector. By integrating responsible recycling practices, both companies are actively contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for electric mobility in India.
