India ICE vs EV sales for top 2W and 3W OEMs in June 2024

In June 2024, the overall penetration of EVs in the 2W market was 6%. For passenger 3W L5 autos, it was 18.3%, and for cargo 3W L5 autos, it was 21.5%. This article aims to showcase where EV sales stand compared to the overall vehicle sales in the 2W and 3W categories.

Hero MotoCorp reported 0.8% of its Jun 2024 sales (3,069 units) as electric vehicles. TVS Motors and Bajaj Auto attributed 5.9% of their sales (13,904 and 8,990 units respectively) to e-2Ws. Traditional manufacturers like Honda Motorcycle, Suzuki Motorcycle, Royal-Enfield, and India Yamaha Motor have yet to enter the EV market.

Overall EV penetration in the 2W segment in June 2024 was 6%, up from 5% in May 2024.

Bajaj Auto led the category sales with 30,583 units, of which 8% (2,381 units) were electric. Piaggio Vehicles followed, achieving 23.3% sales with EVs (1,102 units out of 4,731 total sales). Mahindra Last Mile Mobility had 91.7% of its sales (3,310 units) as electric. TVS Motors, primarily focused on ICE vehicles, recorded only 1% of its sales as EVs (20 out of 1,721 units). This data underscores the growing acceptance and integration of electric vehicles in the segment, with several manufacturers demonstrating substantial commitment to electrification.

Bajaj Auto reported 3,816 total sales, with 4.4% (166 units) being electric. Piaggio Vehicles saw 8.4% of its 2,191 total sales (183 units) as electric. Mahindra Last Mile Mobility achieved a significant 60.4% EV share, with 552 of its 914 units being electric. Omega Seiki and Euler Motors recorded 100% EV sales, with 306 and 209 units, respectively. Capital Auto Industries sold 163 units, all of which were ICE vehicles. MLR Auto had 5% of its sales (6 out of 110 units) as electric, while Altigreen Propulsion achieved 100% EV sales with 89 units.

Overall EV penetration in the 3W goods (L5) segment in June 2024 was 21.5%, down from 22.6% in May 2024.
