In June 2024, India’s overall electric vehicle (EV) market showed a slight slowdown compared to May 2024. Electric two-wheeler (E2W) sales increased to 79,530 units from 77,160. E-rickshaw sales slightly declined to 37,943 from 39,474 units. Electric three-wheelers (E3W L5) for passengers grew to 7,820 from 7,480 units, while E-carts saw a notable drop to 4,611 from 5,534 units. E3W L5 for cargo/goods decreased to 1,930 from 2,245 units. Electric four-wheelers (E4W) also declined to 6,888 from 7,887 units, and electric bus sales significantly dropped to 135 from 220 units. Other EV categories had a minor increase to 385 from 371 units. Overall, while some categories like E2W and E3W L5 Passenger saw minor positive growth, others such as E-rickshaw, E-carts, E4W, and E Bus experienced declines.

During the 12-month period from July 2023 to June 2024, India witnessed electric vehicle (EV) sales of 17,03,924 units. Sales data sourced from the Vahan Dashboard, encompassing 1567 out of 1700 RTOs across 35 states/UTs, show consistent monthly increases, starting at 116,624 units in July 2023, peaking at 212,989 units in March 2024.

The penetration percentage of electric vehicles (EVs) in the two-wheeler (2W) category surged from 5% in May 2024 to 6% in June 2024.

Top players for the month are OLA Electric, TVS Motors and Bajaj Auto. Greaves Electric and Revolt Intellicorp registered 7.6% Y-o-Y decline.

The top 3 brands for June 2024 regarding the number of electric passenger 3Ws registered are Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Ltd, Bajaj Auto and Piaggio Vehicles.

In June 2024, the electric three-wheeler goods sales were led by Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, OMEGA Seiki and Euler Motors.

Tata Motors is the clear leader, with over 63% of the market share, followed by MG Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra.

PMI Electro Mobility sold the most electric buses in June 2024, followed by JBM Auto and Tata Motors.
