Quarterly India EV sales trend for Q3 FY2025-26 | Excerpts

India’s total automotive sales in Q3 FY25-26 were 94,91,532, of which 6,89,722 were EVs, which means 7.26% EV penetration in the quarter for all automotive sales.

‘Goods Carrier’ refers to 4W cargo vehicles, including LCVs and HGVs (N1, N2, N3), as categorised in the Vahan dashboard. ‘E-rickshaw’ refers to low-speed electric 3Ws (up to 25 kmph) used for passenger transportation. ‘E-cart’ designates low-speed electric 3Ws (up to 25 kmph) used for goods transportation.

  • The total number of electric vehicles sold in India from Q4 FY 24-25 to Q3 FY 25-26 (the last four quarters) is 23,53,376 units. The number of EVs sold in Q3 FY25-26 was 6,89,722.
  • Electric vehicle sales are dominated by 2Ws and 3Ws, with a combined volume share of almost 90.91% among all vehicle segments in Q3 FY 25-26.
  • For e-2Ws, sales increased by 17.31% QoQ in Q3 FY 25-26, while the YoY e-2W sales increased by 9.67% (33,771 units).
  • All vehicle categories witnessed a QoQ growth, including a notable 29.92% growth in the e-Goods Carrier category. All categories also registered YoY growth in sales.
  • e-Goods Carrier sales recorded the highest YoY growth of 206.63% (4,299 units), driven by a low base effect.
  • Looking at more YoY changes | e-passenger vehicles, e-Bus, and e-3W Pax L5 witnessed growth of 76.21%, 70.04%, and 69.17%, respectively, in Q3 FY26 compared to Q3 FY25.

Note – 3W E-rickshaw and E-carts not considered for calculation of segment-wise EV penetration.

L5M – passenger 3W L5 vehicles | L5N – Cargo 3W L5 vehicles

  • In Q3 2025-26, the penetration of electric vehicles in the 3W passenger category reached an impressive 35.85%, up from 32.65% penetration in Q2 2025-26.
  • EV penetration in the 3W cargo category stands at 19.82% in Q3 2025-26, down from 22.68%.
  • EV Penetration for 2Ws decreased, accounting for 5.24% of total 2W sales in India in Q3 2025-26 as compared to 7.8% in the last quarter.
  • EV penetration in the 4W segment decreased to 4.11% of total 4W sales in India in Q3 2025-26. EV penetration in the Bus sales increased to 7.53% in Q3 FY 25-26 from 5.11% in Q2.
