BMW India Launches i5 Long Wheelbase at ₹79.6 Lakh

BMW India has launched the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) at ₹79.60 lakh (ex-showroom), its first locally produced electric sedan in India. Manufactured at BMW Group Plant Chennai, the i5 eDrive35L M Sport is available for booking through BMW dealerships and the company’s website, with deliveries commencing immediately. The First Edition, limited to 99 units, is also priced at ₹79.60 lakh, with all units sold ahead of the official launch.

According to the company, the BMW i5 eDrive35L uses BMW eDrive technology with an integrated electric drive unit comprising an electric motor, single-speed transmission and power electronics. The motor produces 268 hp and 410 Nm of maximum torque. It accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 195 km/h. The sedan is equipped with an 81.6 kWh gross-capacity high-voltage battery, offering a claimed range of up to 669 km under the MIDC test cycle.

For charging, the vehicle supports up to 160 kW DC fast charging, with BMW stating that the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 33 minutes. A BMW Wallbox charger with installation is included, supporting charging at up to 11 kW. BMW also offers a Charging Concierge service that provides route recommendations based on available charging points and allows users to activate compatible chargers through a unified payment system.

The BMW i5 LWB measures 5,175 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width and 1,520 mm in height, with a 3,105 mm wheelbase. The exterior features an illuminated BMW kidney grille, adaptive LED headlights, LED taillights, flush-mounted door openers and 20-inch M alloy wheels.

The cabin features a BMW Curved Display with a 12.3-inch Information Display and 14.9-inch Control Display, along with the BMW Interaction Bar, CraftedClarity glass elements, panoramic glass sunroof and Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system. The interior uses vegan upholstery. The First Edition adds a rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and holder, BMW Individual Silver Bronze accents, Fineline open-pored wood trim and First Edition badging. It is available with a Carbon Black Metallic exterior and Titanium Bronze exterior accents.

The i5 LWB is equipped with adaptive rear-axle air suspension. Its driver-assistance and safety features include Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Parking Assistant Professional, Remote Parking, Lane Change Warning, Cross Traffic Warning, Front and Rear Collision Warning, Exit Warning and Active Pedestrian Protection. The car also comes with eight airbags.

BMW Operating System 8.5, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, Remote Software Upgrades, Digital Key Plus, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the MyBMW App are among the connected features offered with the vehicle.

The BMW i5 LWB comes with a two-year/unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, while the high-voltage battery is covered for eight years or 160,000 km.
