TVS Motor launches Orbiter V1 electric scooter starting at ₹49,999 with BaaS
TVS Motor Company (TVSM) has launched the Orbiter V1 electric scooter with a 1.8 kWh battery and introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model across its electric scooter portfolio.
With the BaaS model, the company has separated the vehicle cost from the battery cost. The TVS Orbiter V1 is priced at ₹49,999 (ex-showroom Delhi, including incentives under the PM e‑Drive scheme) when purchased with the BaaS plan. The scooter is priced at ₹84,500 (ex-showroom Delhi) when purchased without BaaS.
The TVS Orbiter V1 is powered by a 1.8 kWh battery and delivers a certified IDC range of 86 km. The battery can be charged from 0–80% in about 2 hours and 20 minutes. The Orbiter range currently includes two variants:
- Orbiter V1 with a 1.8 kWh battery
- Orbiter V2 with a 3.1 kWh battery
Key features of the Orbiter V1 include a mobile app for connectivity, an LED headlamp with visor, and an LCD instrument cluster with incoming call display. The scooter has an 845 mm flat seat designed for both rider and pillion. It includes a 290 mm footboard and an upright handlebar layout. The Orbiter V1 also offers 34 litres of under-seat storage.
Connected features available on the Orbiter include crash, fall, anti-theft, geo-fencing and time-fencing alerts, remote battery status and odometer access through a mobile app, turn-by-turn navigation, and call and SMS notifications on the digital cluster. The scooter also offers Hill Hold Assist, Cruise Control, Parking Assist, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, and two ride modes (Eco and Power) with regenerative braking.
Under the BaaS model, customers pay separately for battery usage instead of purchasing the battery upfront. According to the company, BaaS plans start at ₹862 per month and include battery usage along with an extended warranty of up to five years or 70,000 km. The company states that the plans allow unlimited monthly usage during the selected BaaS tenure.
Gaurav Gupta, President – India 2W Business, TVS Motor Company said, “TVS Motor has built a strong and well-defined EV portfolio, and the launch of TVS Orbiter V1 further strengthens this lineup by introducing the most accessible entry point into our electric scooter range. Alongside this, the introduction of BaaS represents an important shift in customers’ approach to EV ownership. By separating the vehicle price from the battery usage cost, we are enabling greater flexibility while providing customers a clear understanding of the overall cost of ownership.”
“We remain committed to consolidating our leadership in the EV space and advancing India’s electric mobility journey with a strong foundation of trust and innovation. The TVS Orbiter V2, which was launched last year, has been very well received by customers, and their feedback has reinforced the opportunity to further expand the lineup. The introduction of TVS Orbiter V1 reflects these insights, bringing a more accessible option for everyday urban commuting. Together with flexible ownership models like BaaS, we believe the TVS EV portfolio will continue to drive wider acceptance and accelerate EV adoption across India,” said Aniruddha Haldar, Senior Vice President – Head Commuter & EV Business and Head Corporate Brand & Media, TVS Motor Company.
