Surface Moto begins first batch of e-bike deliveries
Surface Moto, an IIT-Delhi incubated micro-mobility startup, has completed its first set of deliveries for the Surface C1, the company’s debut e-bike designed for short urban commutes.
The initial batch was limited in size and deployed across two cities to an early group of customers. Collectively, these units have recorded more than 5,000 km on-road, generating user feedback that has led to engineering updates.
According to the company, early survey data shows the C1 received an average rating of 4.2 out of 5. Design, comfort, and handling were among the higher-rated aspects, while 75% of riders cited braking as a positive feature.

“The Surface C1 is widely praised for its performance, handling, and ride comfort — and we are now making it even better.” shared Syed Shahabaz, Founder & CEO of Surface Moto. “With a patented double-sided chassis and our Adaptive Foam saddles, the new Surface C1 delivers an urban riding experience that we believe more customers will love.”
Each e-bike in the batch went through a 28-step QA/QC process at the company’s facility before delivery. Surface Moto is now preparing additional units for reviewer testing and media trials before reopening pre-orders.
The company reported that more than 350 customers are currently on the waitlist. To support scaling, Surface Moto plans to raise its first round of external funding in early 2026, which it says will be used for full-scale launch, app deployment, and production expansion.

By 2027, the company projects deliveries of over 1,000 units across two cities, targeting approximately ₹8 crore in revenue. Surface Moto has also outlined plans to expand operations to three cities within the next three years and aims to capture 8–10% of India’s electric bicycle market. Its distribution strategy is direct-to-customer.
On the industry side, the global e-bike market was valued at $60 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach $100 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 11%. In India, the market crossed ₹200 crore in revenue in the last fiscal year and is projected to grow further.
Currently, deliveries are limited to pre-order customers. Surface Moto continues to keep its waitlist open for future buyers.
