Motovolt and Swobbee to deploy 200 battery swapping stations in 2 years

Motovolt Mobility Pvt. Ltd, an e-mobility brand in India, has announced a strategic partnership with Swobbee, a German climate-tech firm, to enhance electric two-wheeler accessibility. As part of this initiative, the partners plan to establish 200 battery swapping stations across India within 24 months, supported by a substantial investment exceeding 7 digits USD. The first two Swobbee battery swapping and charging stations have already been launched in Delhi and Kolkata. The long-term vision includes generating over USD 10 million in revenue and achieving profitability within five years.

Swobbee specializes in LEV (Light Electric Vehicle) energy services. As a provider of rental batteries and battery swapping stations, Swobbee offers a manufacturer-independent battery swapping system, said a release. Its past initiatives include expanding from Berlin to multiple German cities and into 10 European countries. The company has collaborated with industry players such as Volkswagen, Total Energies, Galp, BP, and NIU 2 Wheelers. It has also participated in global projects in Indonesia and played pivotal roles in SBMC (Swappable Batteries Motorcycle Consortium) alongside key manufacturers like Honda, Piaggio, and Yamaha. Additionally, Swobbee is actively involved in LEVA-EU (Light Electric Vehicle Association – EU) with entities such as Mahle, Dott, Van Moof, and Segway 9 Bot.

Swobbee stations, currently serving Motovolt’s commercial clients in Delhi and Kolkata, will extend to private customers. Designed as a universal infrastructure, they accommodate diverse LEV batteries, aiming to collaborate with other OEMs for a comprehensive swapping network across India – said a press release.

The collaboration aims to address challenges associated with electric vehicles (EVs), focusing on battery charging time, cost, and overall user experience. Motovolt also plans to expand into the e-scooter segment in the coming months.

Mr. Tushar Choudhary, Founder & CEO, said “Motovolt is committed to understanding customer pain-points and helping them overcome them through unique services, product innovations, and industry collaborations. Swobbee’s battery swapping services offer a unique proposition wherein our customers can subscribe to a swapping solutions provider. This offers freedom from the necessity to purchase batteries upfront with the vehicle, ensuring optimal battery performance, safe and efficient charging, and proper disposal of end of-life batteries. Additionally, Swobbee will gain access to our product portfolio and customer base which will enable them to build a nationwide intelligent and multi-manufacturer battery swapping network.”

“Removing access barriers to clean mobility solutions is imperative not only to cushion the impacts of climate change, but to also ensure social equity in the ongoing green transformation. Nowhere is this more important than in the most populous country and the fifth-largest economy on the planet. Small businesses, delivery services, cabs – they all rely on two- and three-wheelers, which are on the roads by the millions. That is why we are very excited to partner with Motovolt to roll out an infrastructure solution that will democratize access to zero emissions LEVs for businesses and private consumers,” explained Thomas Duscha, CEO and co-founder of Swobbee.
