E-2W and E-3W (Cargo & Passenger) vehicles accounted for 98,297 of the total 1,03,154 electric vehicles sold in December 2022.
Category-Wise Sales Trend from December 2021 to December 2022
- In December 2022, 64,348 high speed e-2Ws were sold, compared to 24,732 units sold in December 2021. Sales of the Electric 3W Passenger Vehicle (L3+L5) reached 30,348 units, a 43 per cent increase over the same month last year.
- Sales of Electric 3W Cargo Vehicles increased from 2,162 units in December 2021 to 3,601 units in December 2022, while the sales of e-4W rose from 2,548 units to 4,681 units over the last year.
EV Penetration in 2W Sales from Dec-21 to Dec-22
In December 2022, electric vehicles made up 5.68% of the total 2Ws sold across India, up from 2.05% in December 2021.
High Speed E-2Ws Sales trend by OEM
OLA Electric sold the highest number of e-2Ws in December 2022 followed by TVS Motors and Hero Electric. OLA Electric registered a whopping 7100% Y-o-Y increase in sales of their electric scooter.
3-Wheeler Passenger Sales Trend by Fuel Type, Dec’21-Dec’22
In December 2022, 55% of the total 3W Passenger Vehicles sold were electric, down from 57% in the same month last year.

Both L3 and L5 Electric 3-Wheelers are included in the analysis. Mahindra & Mahindra, YC Electric Vehicle and Saera Electric are the top 3 sellers of December 2022.
3-Wheeler Cargo Sales Trend by Fuel Type, Dec’21-Dec’22
For the goods 3W segment, the EV penetration rose from 27% in Dec 2021 to 40% in Dec 2022.

Both L3 and L5 Electric 3Wheelers are included in the analysis. Omega Seiki, Mahindra & Mahindra and Piaggio Vehicles are the top 3 sellers of December 2022.
E-4W Sales Trend by OEM
For electric-4Wheeler segment, TATA Motors remained the undisputed leader with 3868 EV Sales and a market share of 82.6% in December 2022.
