India ICE vs EV sales | For top 2W, 3W, 4W OEMs in March 2026
In March 2026, the overall penetration of EVs in the 2W market was 9.8%. For passenger 3W L5 autos, it was 39.5%, and for cargo 3W L5 autos, it was 26.5% and for 4W, it was 5.1%. This article aims to showcase where EV sales stand compared to the overall vehicle sales in the 2W, 3W, and 4W categories.

Top Indian OEMs – 2W Sales | ICE vs EV, Mar 2026

In March 2026, the two-wheeler market remained a mix of ICE and EV sales, with Hero MotoCorp leading overall sales at 5,41,857 units, of which 4% were EVs. Among legacy OEMs, Bajaj Auto (21.4%) and TVS Motor (13.2%) showed notable EV penetration, while Honda and Suzuki remained largely ICE-driven. Royal Enfield and Yamaha reported no EV sales. Among pure EV players, Ather Energy (35,736 units) led, followed by Ola Electric (10,118 units) and Ampere Vehicles (7,973 units), all with 100% EV sales.

In March 2026, Bajaj Auto led the three-wheeler passenger market with 35,145 units sold, of which 23.7% were EVs. Mahindra Last Mile Mobility showed strong EV adoption with 97.6% electric sales, while TVS Motor (52.3%) and Piaggio Vehicles (16.8%) also reported notable EV penetration. Atul Auto remained largely ICE-driven with 15.6% EV share. Meanwhile, Omega Seiki (503 units), TI Clean Mobility (420 units), and Euler Motors (197 units) recorded 100% EV sales, underlining their full commitment to electric mobility.

In March 2026, Bajaj Auto led the three-wheeler cargo market with 5,807 units sold, of which 8.8% were EVs. Mahindra Last Mile Mobility recorded the highest EV share among legacy players at 56.7%, followed by TVS Motor (46.4%) and Atul Auto (15.4%), while Piaggio Vehicles (5.7%) remained largely ICE-driven. Meanwhile, Omega Seiki (326 units), Green Evolve (250 units), and Euler Motors (229 units) reported 100% EV sales, highlighting their continued focus on electric cargo mobility.

In March 2026, the Indian 4W market was dominated by Maruti Suzuki with 1,72,742 units, though its EV penetration remained a marginal 0.5%. JSW MG Motor India emerged as the electrification leader with a staggering 82% EV share, while BMW India led the luxury transition at 27.7%, significantly outperforming Mercedes-Benz India, which saw a 6.7% EV adoption rate. Among volume players, Tata Motors (12.6%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (8.6%) showed robust EV momentum, whereas Hyundai (1%) and Kia (1.6%) maintained limited electric sales despite their high total volumes. Conversely, Toyota, Skoda VW, Honda, Renault, and Nissan remained entirely focused on ICE vehicles, reporting zero EV sales.

In March 2026, EV penetration saw a strong uptick across all segments compared to the previous month and year. 2W EV share rose to 9.8% (up from 6.6% in February and 8.7% last year), while 3W L5M (Passenger) reached a high of 39.5% (vs 34.8% in February and 30% in March 2025). The 3W L5N (Cargo) segment also grew to 26.5% penetration, recovering from 22.3% in February. For 4Ws, EVs hit a 5.1% share, showing steady growth from 3.7% in February and 3.8% a year ago. Meanwhile, Goods Carriers more than doubled their year-on-year presence, reaching 2.1% compared to just 0.9% in March 2025.
