EKA Mobility receives CMVR certification for its 2.5-ton commercial EV

Pune-headquartered EKA Mobility, a subsidiary of Pinnacle Industries, has received the CMVR certification for its 2.5-tonne GVM electric light commercial vehicle from the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT). The company is now looking to start trials and sales of the product in the coming months. Production of the e-LCV is expected to begin in Pune. EKA also announced its collaboration with American Axle & Manufacturing Inc (AAM), who will supply the e-Beam axle for the 2.5 T electric commercial vehicle. The e-LCV will cater to last-mile delivery usecase.

B Anil Baliga, President at EKA, said, “This segment is likely to reach close to 1,00,000 numbers over the next five years. We are planning to push the initial lot by the end of Jan 2023 to a select few customers for initial feedback and performance tracking. We will eventually ramp up the production over the next couple of months. Major thrust on e-LCV sales will be from mid of 2023″.

Israeli startup EVR Motors has partnered with EKA Mobility to design electric motors for the latter’s e-buses and e-LCVs in India. EVR will design and develop electric motors for EKA based on EVR’s proprietary Trapezoidal Stator – RFPM topology. EKA will manufacture these e-motors and integrate them into the vehicles it will provide in the Indian market. EVR will support the setup of EKA’s assembly line.

EKA also received the CMVR certification from ARAI for its 9-meter Electric Bus in July 2022.

This electric bus is claimed to offer around 200 km range on a single charge, and the first batch is expected to be rolled out by the end of the current FY. EKA 9 e-bus is powered by a PMSM Motor with a maximum power of 200 KW and maximum torque of 2500 Nm. With a capacity to seat 31 passengers and a driver, along with a standing capacity, EKA 9 also accommodates a wheelchair with a foldable ramp.

The company had announced investment plans in Madhya Pradesh for an electric bus manufacturing facility spread across 50 acres.

goEgoNetwork is the official electric charging solution provider for EKA’s 9-meter buses and will set up stations of 30kW, 60kW, and 120kW for institutional customers across the country.
