Power Global debuts its swappable battery module for electric 3Ws in India, retrofit kits next

Power Global is a California based company that provides electrification solutions for mobility, stationary storage and consumer product sectors. The company was founded in 2019 by Romeo Power co-founder and former SpaceX engineer Porter Harris and international auto industry veteran Pankaj Dubey who also serves as CEO of Power Global’s India subsidiary.

Power Global has launched its first mass-market solution, a swappable Li-ion battery module called eZeeTM for light electric vehicles, mainly targeting India’s auto-rickshaw market. The launch marks the global debut of Power Global.

How will it work?

Power Global will offer energy-as-a-service membership program for auto-rickshaw drivers to help them take a low-cost path to EV adoption. Through this subscription service, drivers will receive a swappable eZeeTM battery module backed by a zero-maintenance lifetime service guarantee. Drivers can either recharge the module at home or swap at Power Global’s kiosks for a fully charged battery. The module is currently available by subscription pre-order, with initial distribution in Greater Noida.

Facilities in India

The company’s first facility in India will be a battery production plant, located on the site of a former Honda facility in Greater Noida while its R&D lab and battery manufacturing facility in Pasadena, California, will focus on new product innovations for EVs and stationary storage applications. Power Global aspires to become the largest manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries in India and serve neighboring markets in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Egypt and Nigeria as well as other locations in Southeast Asia and Africa.

Retrofit kits for 3Ws to be launched next

A company statement said that Power Global will soon announce its first line of Retrofit Kits to convert diesel- and petrol-fueled auto rickshaws into zero-emission electric vehicles. The swappable battery module will also power future product lines, including their upcoming applications for second-life stationary storage and automotive sector.
