Clean Electric Deploys 3,000+ FLO150 Battery Packs for Electric L5 3Ws

Clean Electric is a Series-A funded company focused on designing and manufacturing lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage applications. Founded in 2020 by IIT-BHU and IIT Mandi alumni Akash Gupta, Abhinav Roy, and Ankit Joshi, the company is headquartered in Pune and operates as a Tier-1 battery supplier to EV OEMs across India.

Clean Electric believes in building batteries that charge faster, last longer, and stay safer — even in India’s toughest operating conditions. In this interview with EVreporter, Co-founder and CEO Akash Gupta shares the technical details and market impact of their purpose-built battery system for the L5 category.

Launched in early 2025, Clean Electric has deployed 3,000+ FLO150 batteries across 80+ locations in India, covering 35 million+ kilometres in less than 18 months.

FLO150 is a compact, immersion-cooled 15 kWh battery pack engineered specifically for high-utilisation electric L5 Autos. At the heart of FLO150 are multiple patented technologies that push the boundaries of pack-level battery performance. The pack addresses real-world demands of commercial drivers and fleet operators, including uptime and reliability, which directly impact their daily earnings.

Other higher-capacity 15 kWh batteries before FLO150 came with major compromises. They were bulky, heavy, difficult to package within L5 platforms, and thermally inefficient — directly limiting warranty, lifespan, and vehicle uptime. These constraints reduced usable range and, ultimately, the earning potential of drivers.

We changed that equation. One of the most transformative outcomes of FLO150 is 300+ km range tested on multiple IDC cycles on a single charge — a milestone that has rapidly shifted adoption, especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets.

The battery supports high-speed charging via the universal Type-6 protocol, offering 1-hour fast charging and a ~100 km range top-up in just 30 minutes for passenger autos.

Additionally, another pain point of the L5 segment has been the life of lithium-ion batteries. On that front, with our immersion cooling system, we are seeing a huge improvement in life. Our FLO150 batteries are showing <1.5% capacity loss after 300+ cycles in the real world, implying a life of 3,000-4,000+ cycles. This implies that the battery is suitable for the life of an auto and that no battery replacement will be required. And our industry-leading warranties reflect the same. For commercial fleets and owner-drivers, this results in peace of mind and a lower total cost of ownership.

The increasing range and fast charging capability directly lead to longer daily routes, fewer charging stops, more trips per day, and significantly higher daily income.

In real-world use, fast charging effectively eliminates operational downtime as a constraint.

FLO150’s compatibility with the widely deployed Type-6 charging infrastructure means drivers can take short charging breaks and quickly get back on the road, enabling near-continuous vehicle utilisation and higher daily earning potential.

Clean Electric is among the first companies in India — and globally — to productionise immersion cooling for EV batteries, with 5,000+ batteries already operating on the road.

By increasing the coolant contact area by 5–7x, immersion cooling enables faster, safer charging, lower, more uniform battery temperatures, and higher cycle life and long-term reliability. Even in peak summers across regions like UP, Delhi, and Rajasthan, real-world data shows FLO150 operating at average temperatures below 35°C, dramatically improving battery health and safety.

  • Our patented Cell-to-Pack (CTP) Architecture removes unnecessary structural components, resulting in a battery that is 20% lighter than conventional 15 kWh packs while achieving energy densities of 250–260 Wh/L. The result is a compact footprint equivalent to a traditional 10–12 kWh battery — enabling flexible placement under the seat or at the rear without compromising ground clearance or vehicle stability.
  • Additionally, with proprietary dynamic charging algorithms and an in-house Battery Management System (BMS), FLO150 continuously manages current and temperature in real time. This allows 1-hour fast charging with Type-6 chargers while delivering up to 30% longer life than air-cooled or cold-plate-cooled alternatives.

Clean Electric has partnered with leading OEMs, including Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM), Baxy Mobility, and multiple aftermarket L5 programs. Operational data shows up to 25% increase in daily running, with many drivers clocking 200+ km per day, directly improving earnings and vehicle utilisation.

The strong validation of FLO150 in the L5 segment is now powering Clean Electric’s next phase of growth.

The same patented technologies — immersion cooling and cell-to-pack architecture — are being scaled to develop high-capacity battery systems for Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs), electric buses, and heavy-truck and freight EVs. These segments demand exactly what FLO150 has already proven at scale: high energy density, thermal stability, fast charging, and long life.

Other products in the Clean Electric portfolio include the FLO120 (12kWh, medium-range, long-life, with 50 min fast charging) and FLO180 (18kWh, long-range, long-life, with 1 hour fast charging).
