Australian battery company Recharge Industries buys out Britishvolt

London, UK, February 27, 2023 – Recharge Industries™, a portfolio company of Scale Facilitation®, has been successful in its bid for ownership of Britishvolt. Recharge Industries™ is a Geelong, Australia-based firm that is currently developing Australia’s first large-scale lithium-ion cell production facility. Recharge Industries™ holds exclusive licensing of Intellectual Property (IP) and advanced battery technology within the Commonwealth of Australia through its United States technology partner C4V. 

Notably, in Jan 2023, the UK battery start-up BritishVolt had collapsed into administration, with most of the staff made redundant. It was constructing a gigafactory in northeast England since 2021, but work halted in August 2022 amid funding difficulties. Recharge Industries has now announced that it has been successful in its bid for the Cambois gigafactory site.

Under plans presented by Recharge Industries™, the Britishvolt project will make the UK’s first Gigafactory a reality. The recharged Britishvolt will provide thousands of green, skilled and local jobs that will drive local and national benefits.
