OHM Automotives to Introduce CATL Battery Powered Electric Buses in India

OHM Automotives Private Limited (OHM) has announced a collaboration with Kinwin China to procure and introduce 12-meter electric intercity and intracity buses in the Indian market. The electric buses, manufactured by CHTC China, will be procured through Kinwin China as CBUs. The company said it has secured an order for 50 electric buses from a couple of leading fleet operators.

The buses are equipped with CATL battery technology, feature a 353 kWh LFP battery pack, and deliver a driving range of more than 300 km on a single charge. The battery system is designed for a lifecycle of nearly 1.2 million kilometres, according to a company statement.

The first 2 buses are expected to arrive in India in 45 days and will be deployed to ply from Hyderabad. In the first year, OHM targets to deploy 100 buses, scaling to 500 intercity buses in 2 years.

As part of the collaboration, Kinwin China will also provide technology support to OHM for electric bus manufacturing, integration, and deployment activities in India. OHM Automotives stated that it aims to invest INR 200 crores to start assembling the electric buses over the next few years. The buses are intended to offer lower operating costs, operational efficiencies, reliability and performance suited for Indian road and climate conditions.
