India Sold 25,50,865 Electric Vehicles Across Categories in FY 2025-26

Note – Low-speed e-2W data not included. ‘Others’ category includes Forklift, Adapted Vehicle, Crane mounted vehicle etc. ‘Goods Carrier’ refers to cargo vehicles, including LCVs and HGVs (N1, N2, N3), as categorised in the Vahan dashboard. ‘E-rickshaw’ refers to low-speed electric 3Ws (up to 25 kmph) used for passenger transportation. ‘E-cart’ designates low-speed electric 3Ws (up to 25 kmph) used for goods transportation.

With total sales of 25,50,865 units of electric vehicles, EVs account for 8.64% of overall automobile sales in FY25-26.

  • In FY25-26, India’s EV sales surpassed 2.5 million units.
  • EV sales numbers for FY25-26 show a 25.02% YoY growth over FY24-25.
  • Electric 2Ws led the market, recording sales of 14,72,029 units. Electric 2Ws accounted for 57.9% of total EV sales in India, down from 59.4% last year. The segment recorded 22% growth in overall sales volume over FY24-25.
  • 4,77,765 e-rickshaws and 86,466 e-carts were sold in India in FY 25-26.
  • E-rickshaws had a 18.8% share in FY25-26, down from 23.2% in the previous year.
  • L5 passenger e-3Ws accounted for 9.4% of EV sales in the year and saw a 76% YoY increase in sales volume.
  • E-4W registrations reached 2,22,870 units in FY25-26, recording a YoY growth of 90.4%. E-4Ws accounted for 8.8% of EV Sales in FY25-26.
  • e-Goods Carrier recorded sales of 14,803 units across N1, N2, and N3 segments, registering a YoY growth of 166.9%.
  • Highest EV Selling Months – March 2026, Oct 2025, Nov 2025
  • Lowest EV Selling Months – Apr 2025, May 2025, Jun 2025

Note – 3W E-rickshaw and E-carts not considered for calculation of segment-wise EV penetration.

L5M – passenger 3W L5 vehicles | L5N – Cargo 3W L5 vehicles

  • EV penetration in the passenger 3W segment rose sharply to 33.7%, from 22.8% in FY24-25.
  • EV penetration in the 2W segment edged up by 0.4% to reach 6.6%.
  • EV penetration in the 4W segment rose sharply – 4.6% of total 4W sales in FY25-26.
  • Significant growth in the Goods Carrier segment with 1.6% EV penetration.
  • With 98,892 units, Bangalore sold the most electric two-wheelers in the country during FY25-26, far ahead of Delhi at 41,238 units.
  • L5 Electric Passenger 3Ws – Lucknow is the clear city leader in the segment with 14,099 units, far ahead of number 2 Kanpur (7,513 units). For L5 Electric Cargo 3Ws, Delhi leads by a sizable margin as the leading city in the segment, selling more than the combined sales of rest of the cities in top 10.
  • Bengaluru and Delhi are the two leading cities for electric car sales, far ahead of Mumbai and Jaipur at 3rd and 4th place, respectively.

Tata Motors dominated the Indian e-4W space with 86,465 units, accounting for 38.8% market share (down from 51.8%) and YoY growth of 42%. Mahindra Electric reported a remarkable Y-o-Y growth of 443%, with sales increasing to 47,861 units from 8,812 units in FY24-25. JSW MG Motor recorded a 83% YoY growth, with sales rising to 59,153 units from 32,407 units in FY24-25.

  • Kia India, BMW India and Hyundai India posted strong growth compared to FY 24-25 sales numbers.
  • Stellantis saw a 68% decline in sales volume.
