Agratas accelerates construction at its Sanand battery facility in Gujarat
Agratas, the battery business of the Tata Group, is progressing with the construction of its battery manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat. Structural steel framework at the site is nearing completion.
The 320-acre facility is planned to have an annual production capacity of 20 GWh in the first phase. More than 2,000 construction workers and over 700 staff from vendor organisations are currently deployed. The project is part of the company’s plan to support India’s clean-energy targets and develop domestic battery cell manufacturing capability.
Tata Projects Limited and Tata Consulting Engineers are working with Agratas on the development of the facility.

Anand Sodha, Vice President – Supply Chain at Agratas, said “The progress at Sanand reflects the dedication and pace of our teams as we bring our vision to life. Each phase of construction takes us closer to our goal of building one of the most advanced manufacturing facilities in the country. Our supply chain will provide resilience, visibility, and speed by design. From automation to sustainable transport, every aspect has been engineered to meet global standards while contributing to India’s clean energy mission.”
Rahul Sharma, Strategic Business Unit Head – Urban Built Form at Tata Projects, said “Our expertise in delivering large-scale manufacturing projects enables us to construct world-class facilities efficiently, while ensuring sustainable practices are embedded throughout the process.”
Agratas is also developing its supply chain systems for the facility. The operations will include an integrated sales and operations planning system linking demand, supply and inventory across imports, exports and domestic movement. The company stated that the facility is intended to contribute to India’s energy-transition goals and support opportunities in advanced manufacturing.
