Musashi Seimitsu enters Indian e-mobility market | Plans to invest INR 70 crores in phase 1
Japanese company Musashi Seimitsu Industries is entering the electric mobility space in India through its subsidiary, Musashi India. The company plans to manufacture electric vehicle (EV) components, specifically the E-Axle for electric 2Ws, which consists of the motor, power control unit (PCU), and gearbox. Production is scheduled to begin at the Bengaluru plant in October 2023.
Musashi will invest 70 crore rupees in the initial phase to set up an assembly line for the E-Axle.
To support its EV venture, Musashi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat New-Energy Company (BNC) to collaborate on developing drivetrain technology. Additionally, Musashi has formed strategic partnerships with Strom in Thailand, EV Go in Vietnam, and Arc Ride in Kenya to supply them with E-Axles manufactured in India.
The CEO of Musashi’s India and Africa region, Mr. Toshihisa Otsuka, expressed excitement about bringing Musashi’s advanced technology to India’s electric mobility sector. The company aims to provide high-quality components essential for the success of electric vehicles and contribute to the sustainable development of the Indian automotive industry. According to the company statement, Musashi India’s 2-wheel E-Axle offers a slim and lightweight design, integrating the motor and gearbox to achieve high transmission efficiency and low noise levels.
Musashi India’s entry into the electric mobility market aligns with the Indian government’s initiatives to promote EV adoption and reduce carbon emissions. The company aims to push the adoption of EVs in India, address environmental concerns, and enhance the overall driving experience for Indian consumers. Musashi considers China, North America, and Europe as essential markets, alongside its home market in Japan. The company holds a positive outlook on the Indian market and anticipates a substantial increase in market share for its EV business in the country.
