Kia launches first locally manufactured EV – Carens Clavis at ₹17.99 lakh

Kia India has announced the launch of its first electric vehicle manufactured in India, the Carens Clavis EV, starting at ₹17.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The model is offered in four variants with two battery configurations.

The Carens Clavis EV is available with:

  • A 42 kWh battery with an ARAI-certified range of 404 km (MIDC)
  • A 51.4 kWh battery with an ARAI-certified range of 490 km (MIDC)

The vehicle supports 100 kW DC fast charging, with a 10% to 80% charge time of 39 minutes. It includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability for external and internal power supply, an IP67-certified battery pack, and a liquid-cooled thermal management system. The Carens Clavis EV offers two motor options—99 kW and 126 kW—both delivering 255 Nm torque, with the 51.4 kWh variant accelerating from 0–100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and a claimed motor efficiency of 95%; an active air flap system helps regulate battery temperature and aerodynamics.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Gwanggu Lee, Managing Director and CEO of Kia India, said, “We are committed to leading the future of electric mobility through innovation, sustainability and a deep understanding of evolving consumer needs. Over the years, we have built a strong global EV portfolio and are proud to bring that expertise to India. The Carens Clavis EV represents the next step in this journey. It is built on three core pillars — our proven global EV technology, advanced features that simplify the driving experience, and our unique RV philosophy that stands for movement, flexibility, and togetherness. The Kia Carens Clavis EV, India’s first Electric RV, has been thoughtfully built for a nation that moves with ambition and togetherness. Inspired by India, our first made-in India electric vehicle carries forward the idea of ‘E-We’ defining a new way to move.”

The vehicle includes four levels of regenerative braking, accessible via paddle shifters. Level 4 (i-Pedal) enables one-pedal driving. An automatic mode adjusts the braking level based on driving conditions.

The Carens Clavis EV features a 26.62-inch dual integrated display, electric tumble second-row seats, a smart switch for infotainment and climate control, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat, a seat-mounted air purifier with AQI display, a dual-pane sunroof, a shift-by-wire column gear selector, and storage options including cup holders, retractable tables, and a 25-litre frunk.

The Carens Clavis EV comes with ADAS Level 2 featuring 20 driver assistance functions, including collision avoidance, lane and cruise controls, blind spot monitoring, and a 360-degree camera. It also offers 18 standard safety features such as six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Anti-lock Brake System, all-wheel disc brakes, ISOFIX mounts, and rollover sensors.

The Carens Clavis EV supports 90 connected features via the MyKia app, including charging status and scheduling, distance-to-empty display on maps, V2L and charging current settings, charge completion and range alerts, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and a digital owner’s manual.

Kia India’s K-Charge platform provides access to over 11,000 public charging points. The company operates 250+ EV-ready workshops and 100+ dealerships with DC charging facilities.
