India’s Electric Vehicle sales trend | March 2026

Electric vehicle sales in India showed strong growth across most categories in March 2026 compared to February 2026. E2W sales rose sharply to 1,91,067 units from 1,12,628, while E4W sales increased to 22,315 from 14,712. E3W L5 Passenger also grew to 23,468 units from 21,107, and E3W L5 Cargo/Goods increased to 3,710 from 3,193. E-goods carrier sales climbed to 1,885 from 1,458, and e-carts saw a marginal rise to 7,424 from 7,268. However, e-rickshaw sales declined to 28,942 units from 34,831, and e-bus sales dipped slightly to 559 from 578. The “Others” category recorded a notable increase to 160 units from 18.

India recorded 24,52,056 EV sales from April 2025 to March 2026, per Vahan Dashboard data (excluding Telangana and low-speed e-2Ws). Monthly sales peaked in March 2026 (2,79,530) and were lowest in April 2025 (1,69,355).

EV penetration in the two-wheeler (2W) category increased from 6.6% in February 2026 to 9.8% in March 2026.

The top 3 brands for March 2026 regarding the number of electric passenger 3Ws registered are Bajaj Auto, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Ltd, and TVS Motor.

In March 2026, the electric three wheeler goods sales were led by Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, Bajaj Auto, and Omega Seiki.

In March 2026, the e-rickshaw sales were led by YC Electric, Zeniak Innovation, and Dilli Electric.

The penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) in the four-wheeler passenger car/cab category rose from 3.7% in February 2026 to 5.1% in March 2026.

Tata Motors is the clear leader, with over 37% of the market share, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra and JSW MG Motors.

JBM Electric Vehicles sold the most electric buses in March 2026, followed by Switch Mobility and PMI Electro Mobility.

Tata Motors is the clear leader with over 45% market share in e-goods carrier sales in March 2026, followed by Euler Motors and Mahindra Last Mile Mobility.
