India Registers 8,34,222 EVs in Q1 FY2026-27

‘Goods Carrier’ refers to 4W cargo vehicles, including LCVs and HGVs (N1, N2, N3), as categorised in the Vahan dashboard. ‘E-rickshaw’ refers to low-speed electric 3Ws (up to 25 kmph) used for passenger transportation. ‘E-cart’ designates low-speed electric 3Ws (up to 25 kmph) used for goods transportation.

India’s total automotive sales in Q1 FY26-27 were 78,81,905, of which 8,34,222 were EVs, which means 10.6% EV penetration in the quarter.

  • In Q1 FY 26-27, the EV penetration in the 3W L5 passenger category reached an impressive 46.9%, up from 34.9% in Q4 FY 25-26.
  • EV Penetration for 2Ws increased, accounting for 9.2% of total 2W sales in India in Q1 FY 26-27 as compared to 7.8% in the last quarter.
  • EV penetration in the 4W segment increased to 6.9% of total car sales in India in Q1.

Note – 3W E-rickshaw and E-carts not considered for calculation of segment-wise EV penetration.
