Hindalco to supply battery foil to C4V | Signs MoU

On December 19, 2023, C4V, a Li-Ion battery technology company based in the U.S.A., entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hindalco Industries for the collaboration in the development and supply of Battery Grade Aluminium foils, Coated Foils, and structural components for Li-ion cells, catering to the growing market for electric vehicle (EV) battery materials.

A company source said that Hindalco had sent samples of aluminium and copper to C4V, which have been qualified for use at their US facility.

According to the terms of the MOU, Hindalco will supply C4V with up to 2,000 tons of battery foil over five years. The agreement outlines a strategic roadmap for collaboration on materials and joint technology development, aligning with the changing requirements of the Indian EV market. This collaborative approach will bolster local manufacturing capabilities and expertise, contributing to India’s self-reliance in EV battery technology.

Hindalco recently revealed plans for establishing a 25,000-ton battery foil manufacturing facility in Odisha. The plant is expected to be operational by FY 2025. In the meantime, the products produced at their Mouda (Maharashtra) facility are presently undergoing qualification with Lithium-ion cell manufacturers in India, Europe, and the United States.
