EKA Mobility unveils EKA K1.5 electric LCV at INR 13.9 lakhs

EKA Mobility, a participant in the electric mobility sector with equity partners Mitsui Co., Ltd. (Japan) and VDL Group (Netherlands), has introduced 1.5-tonne electric Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) at a starting price at INR 13.9 lakhs* (ex-showroom). The unveiling took place at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, 2024. The EKA K1.5 claims to offer the highest payload capacity and lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in its segment. The vehicle is built on a 300-volt electrical system architecture, delivering a peak power of 60kW and Fast Charge capabilities. EKA Mobility’s 1.5-tonne electric LCVs aim to address the changing requirements of the modern logistics and transportation industry.

Additionally, the company presented its 9-meter electric bus, the EKA 9 Staff Bus, at the expo. This electric bus is designed and manufactured entirely in India. The EKA K1.5 is positioned as a sustainable and profitable logistics solution with zero emissions, large battery capacity, and multiple daily use cycles as claimed by the statement.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Sudhir Mehta, Founder & Chairman of EKA Mobility, highlighted, “Our electric LCVs represent a significant step forward in the evolution of commercial transportation globally. The electric LCV is designed to cater to diverse applications, providing customization for over eight uses. The EKA K1.5 range includes various load body customizations to meet customer requirements, such as:

  • Aluminium Container Body
  • Side Open Aluminium Container Body
  • Ms Container Body 
  • Open Top Container Body / Raised Load Body
  • Half Load Body For Market Loads
  • Eutectic Container For Cold Chain Applications 
  • Insulated Box Container Body 
  • Garbage Collector Body

At the expo, EKA Mobility showcases urban logistics solutions and temperature-sensitive cargo transportation by displaying its eutectic van. The company earlier partnered with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Japan) and VDL Groep (Netherlands), investing over USD 100 million (~ INR 850 crores) in phases to position India as a global hub for electric vehicles. EKA also collaborates with GreenCell Mobility to supply 1000 intercity electric buses in 12-meter and 13.5-meter categories in the coming years.

EKA Mobility is approved under the Government of India’s Auto PLI policy and is part of the Champion OEM Scheme and EV component manufacturing scheme. The company has established a research, development, engineering & innovation centre in Pune, Maharashtra and claims 700 electric buses and 5000+ electric light commercial vehicle orders in the pipeline. All these vehicles will be manufactured in India at EKA’s proposed & existing state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
