EIM Inaugurates Second Heavy-Duty Battery Swapping and Charging Station at JNPA

Energy In Motion (EIM) has inaugurated its second heavy-duty battery swapping-cum-charging station at the Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal (NSDT) under the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA). The facility is part of EIM’s plan to develop an EV Megaplex at JNPA and supports the port authority’s target of completing its energy transition by December 2027.

The inauguration was attended by Lokesh Chandra, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and CMD, MSEDCL; Gaurav Dayal, Chairperson, JNPA; Ravish Kumar Singh, Deputy Chairperson, JNPA; Narendra Murkumbi, Managing Director, Energy In Motion; and Shantanu Lath, CEO, Ravindra Energy Ltd.

The new station follows EIM’s existing E5 battery swapping station at JNPA. According to the company, around 150 EIM electric trucks are currently operating within JNPA. The planned EV Megaplex will include three battery swap-cum-charging stations, a service station, a driver training centre and a heavy-vehicle simulator. Along with the existing swapping facility, the infrastructure is planned to support the electrification of more than 700 heavy trucks operating across key terminal corridors at JNPT.

The facility is intended to support electric freight operations through battery swapping, vehicle servicing, driver training and simulation. EIM said its operations also include slot-booking and slot-optimisation systems to integrate electric vehicles into port freight operations.

According to Narendra Murkumbi, Managing Director, Energy In Motion, “What began with dedicated port operations at JNPT is now expanding into a broader Port logistics eco-system, including CFS movements, extending the benefits of electric freight to the wider logistics chain. This transition is being enabled through deep collaboration between EIM, JNPA, terminal partners and logistics service providers. Smart slot-booking systems, slot optimisation and shared operational practices are helping integrate electric vehicles into high-throughput freight operations. As JNPA moves towards its December 2027 energy-transition milestone, the EV Megaplex at NSDT emerges as a critical building block in this journey—connecting cleaner energy, electric vehicles and smarter freight operations into one integrated ecosystem. ”
