BillionE and Hindalco launch electric freight corridor in Gujarat
Billion Electric Mobility (BillionE), an E-Mobility-as-a-Service (eMaaS) platform, in collaboration with Hindalco Industries’ Birla Copper Division, has introduced Gujarat’s first heavy-duty electric freight corridor. The 160 km route between Dahej and Asoj aims to promote low-emission transport for industrial logistics.
The project will deploy 15 Ashok Leyland electric trucks with a 55-ton capacity in phases. Ten trucks will begin operations immediately, and five more will be added within three months. The initiative is intended to reduce emissions and dependence on oil-based fuels in freight transport. Hindalco Logistics is expanding its electric vehicle fleet to align with its sustainability goals.
BillionE will utilize ChargeZone’s charging network for operations, with stations located at Karjan, Bharuch, and another site along the corridor. The company plans to expand operations to include secondary transport routes in Vapi, Daman, and Silvassa after the initial phase.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjeev Kulkarni, CEO, BillionE Mobility, said “Launching this heavy-duty electric freight corridor is more than just a milestone. It represents a transformation in how India moves goods at scale. Heavy logistics have long depended on fossil fuels, contributing to emissions and energy vulnerability. By deploying electric trucks, we are showing that industrial transport can be both efficient and sustainable. Our partnership with Hindalco is an important step toward creating a nationwide network of zero-emission freight corridors, helping businesses decarbonize operations while improving efficiency and reducing long-term costs.”
Bishnu Agarwal, Functional Head, F&C Copper Business at Hindalco Industries Ltd., said “As logistics is the backbone of our business, it is our responsibility to drive change toward cleaner and smarter solutions. By transitioning to EVs, we are reducing our carbon footprint while improving efficiency with quieter, low-maintenance, and future-ready vehicles. This is sustainability as a business advantage, not just a regulatory requirement.”
