Top Indian states by EV penetration in automotive sales | Jan 2025 to Sep 2025
EV Penetration in 2W Sales

- 1,34,41,423 two-wheelers were registered in India from January 2025 to September 2025, of which 9,42,392 were electric, accounting for a 7% EV penetration in the 2W sales.
- During this period, Maharashtra recorded the highest EV penetration, at 16.47%, with 155,183 e-2W sales, followed by Karnataka with 12.92% (121,779 units) and Tamil Nadu with 10.26% (96,675 units).
- In Maharashtra, Bajaj led the market with 62,834 units, followed by TVS Motor with 36,063 units. In Karnataka, Ather led the market with 32,271 units, followed by TVS Motor with 25,313 units.
- In Tamil Nadu, TVS Motor led the market with 23,403 units, followed by Ather with 16,277 units. In Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, TVS Motor secured the leading position with 23,430 units and 21,598 units sold, respectively.
EV Penetration in Passenger 3W (L5M) Sales

- Between Jan 2025 and Sep 2025, 454,596 L5 passenger 3Ws were registered, of which 138,483 were electric, i.e. a 30.5% EV share.
- Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest EV penetration of 30.84% with 42,704 L5M e-3Ws sold, followed by Assam with 14.61% (20,231 units) and Bihar with 10.07% (13,950 units).
- In Uttar Pradesh, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility led the market with 53,320 units, accounting for 38.5% market share, followed by Bajaj Auto with 49,429 units and 35.7% market share. In Assam and Bihar, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility led the market with 8,363 units and 6,410 units, respectively, followed by Bajaj Auto with 7,524 units and 4,968 units.
The top five selling states in the North and East regions collectively accounted for 64.8% of India’s L5M E-3W sales during this period.
EV Penetration in Cargo 3W (L5N) Sales

- Between January 2025 and September 2025, 96,185 L5 cargo 3Ws were registered in India, of which 21,597 were electric, representing a 22.5% EV share in the category.
- During this period, Delhi recorded the highest EV penetration of 23.82% with 5,145 units L5N e-3Ws, followed by Tamil Nadu with 14.22% (3,071 units) and Karnataka with 11.41% (2,465 units).
- In Delhi, Omega Seiki led the market with 1,650 units, accounting for 32.1% market share, followed by Bajaj Auto with 1,356 units and 26.4% market share.
- Among the top five selling states, the central regions collectively accounted for 29.4% of India’s EV sales in this category, while the southern region accounted for 31.5% of sales.
EV Penetration in Passenger Vehicles 4W Sales

- 3,105,257 4Ws were registered in India from January 2025 to September 2025, of which 133,869 were electric ~ 4.3% EV penetration.
- During this period, Maharashtra recorded the highest EV penetration of 16.62% with 22,252 e-4W units sold, followed by Karnataka with 10.83% (14,495 units) and Kerala with 10.01% (13,404 units).
- Across the top three selling states, Tata Motors led the market with 19,607 units, followed by JSW MG Motor with 15,971 units.
- The Southern region of India shows strong presence of the e-4Ws, with the leading states collectively accounting for 45.8% of India’s electric car sales during this period.
- Luxury brand Mercedes-Benz sold 295 units in Maharashtra, whereas BMW recorded stronger sales in Delhi with 350 units.
EV Penetration in Goods Carrier Sales

- Between January 2025 and September 2025, 586,736 goods carriers were registered in India, of which 6,903 were electric, representing a 1.2% EV share.
- During this period, Maharashtra recorded the highest EV penetration of 20.18% with 1,393 units of e-goods carriers sold, followed by Tamil Nadu with 14.72% (1,016 units) and Delhi with 9.16% (632 units).
- Tata Motors led the top five states with an overall 24.4% market share, while Mahindra Last Mile Mobility secured the second position with a 12.3% market share.
EV Penetration in Bus Sales

- Between January 2025 and September 2025, 63,911 buses were registered in India, of which 3,144 were electric, representing 4.9% EV penetration in the category.
- During this period, Delhi recorded the highest EV penetration of 34.76% with 1,093 e-bus units sold, followed by Maharashtra with 28.69% (902 units) and Karnataka with 14.09% (443 units).
- In Delhi, PMI Electro Mobility led the e-bus sales with 644 units, followed by JBM Auto with 320 units. While in Maharashtra, Olectra Greentech led the market with 669 units, followed by Pinnacle Mobility with 144 units.
- In Karnataka, Switch Mobility led the market with 295 units followed by Tata Motors with 117 units.
- The top five selling states together accounted for nearly 91.1% of the total market share.
