Tata Motors to supply 100 electric buses to Green Energy Mobility Solutions
Tata Motors has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Green Energy Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd (GEMS), the electric mobility arm of Universal Bus Services (UBS), for the supply of 100 Magna EV intercity coaches. The MoU was signed during the Passenger Vehicle Expo 2.0 in Chennai, where Tata Motors displayed its commercial passenger mobility solutions, including the Magna EV and the LPO 1822.
Universal Bus Services operates intercity travel services in South India. Its recently formed electric vehicle arm, Green Energy Mobility Solutions, aims to support UBS’ transition to electric mobility through the use of electric buses and charging infrastructure.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa, Minister for Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu, along with representatives from the state government and members of the All Omni Bus Owners Association (AOBOA).
The Magna EV coach is a fully electric intercity bus with a claimed range of up to 300 km per charge. It has a 44-seat layout and is equipped with Electronic Braking System (EBS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
Tata Motors operates a portfolio of electric buses that includes the Starbus EV and Ultra EV for intra-city travel, and the Magna EV for intercity applications. The company reports that more than 3,600 of its electric buses are currently running in 11 cities, with a cumulative operational distance exceeding 34 crore kilometres. These vehicles are integrated with Tata Motors’ Fleet Edge connected vehicle platform, which supports diagnostics, tracking, and fleet management.
