Rajkot adds 22 e-buses by PMI Electro and opens Gondal charging station

In support of advancing electric mobility in Gujarat, 22 new electric buses were launched on August 5, 2024. Manufactured and operated by PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd., these buses will be added to the city’s public transport system.

With these additions, Rajkot’s fleet of air-conditioned electric buses now totals 109. The new 33-seat e-buses have semi-low floors to ensure easier access for all passengers, including those with special needs. This expansion is anticipated to help reduce the city’s carbon footprint.

The Gondal Charging Station is equipped with five 240kw GBT electric bus charging stations, offering 24×7 operations, maintenance and service support.

As per the company statement, these newly introduced electric buses are zero-emission vehicles and are projected to reduce over 650 tons of CO2 emissions annually. These buses use fast-charging lithium-ion batteries and include features such as a Real Time Passenger Information System (PIS), emergency panic buttons, vehicle location and tracking system, CCTV cameras, public address system, stop request buttons, and fire detection and alarm system. The buses also have a user-friendly dashboard designed to help drivers focus on driving.

The launch event was attended by Mr. Pradeep Dav, former Mayor of Rajkot, Mr. Jamin Thakar, Chairman of Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC), Mr. Mukesh Doshi, President of BJP, and Mr. Swapnil Khare, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of RMC, among other government officials and company representatives.
