Ola Electric launches ‘Ola शक्ति’, enters residential battery storage market

Ola Electric has announced the launch of its first residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), Ola शक्ति, marking the company’s entry into India’s ₹1 lakh crore BESS market, which is projected to grow to over ₹3 lakh crore by 2030.

The company stated that with the launch, its annual Gigafactory consumption for the BESS segment is expected to scale up to 5 GWh in the next few years, potentially exceeding its automotive consumption.

Ola शक्ति is built using Ola Electric’s indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cells and is designed, engineered, and manufactured in India. It will be available in four battery configurations—1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh—priced at ₹29,999, ₹55,999, ₹1,19,999, and ₹1,59,999 respectively for the first 10,000 units. Reservations begin today at ₹999, with deliveries scheduled to start from Makar Sankranti 2026.

According to the company, the product has been designed for use in households, small businesses, and farms as a portable energy storage solution. It said the system would enable users to store and use energy efficiently and is equipped with features such as Time-of-Day (ToD) charge/discharge scheduling, intelligent backup prioritisation, remote diagnostics, over-the-air software updates, and energy usage insights.

Ola Electric stated that Ola शक्ति has a modular design for scalability, an IP67 rating for weather resistance, and operates across an input voltage range of 120V–290V. The system provides an efficiency of up to 98%, with no running or maintenance costs, and can power equipment such as air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, farm pumps, and communication devices. The charging time is up to two hours, and it offers backup of up to 1.5 hours on full load.

Commenting on the launch, Bhavish Aggarwal, CMD, Ola Electric said, “India doesn’t face energy shortage; it faces an energy storage opportunity. With Ola शक्ति, we are turning that opportunity into energy independence. We have built worldclass battery and cell technology for electric mobility. Ola शक्ति extends that innovation to homes, helping them store and use clean energy intelligently. Ola शक्तिis a natural next step for us as we leverage our existing 4680 cell technology, Gigafactory production capabilities, and nationwide Ola network as a ready sales and distribution backbone – ensuring rapid scale without any incremental investment.”

Ola Electric stated that the BESS segment would form a new vertical for the company, expanding its operations beyond electric vehicles to the broader energy storage ecosystem. The company plans to expand from residential storage systems to grid-scale deployments using the same 4680 Bharat Cell platform.

The product will be available through Ola’s website and its retail outlets across India.
