India’s Electric Vehicle sales trend | September 2025

Electric vehicle sales in India showed mixed trends in September 2025 compared to August. E2W sales declined slightly to 1,04,124 units from 1,04,966, while e-rickshaw sales dropped to 34,078 from 36,961. E3W L5 Passenger sales increased to 18,485 from 18,007, but e-cart sales fell to 6,031 from 6,212. E3W L5 Cargo/Goods sales rose to 2,434 from 2,296, whereas E4W sales decreased to 15,118 from 18,308. E-bus sales slipped to 343 from 391, while e-goods carrier sales edged up to 1,208 from 1,143 units.

India recorded 21,65,822 EV sales from Oct 2024 to Sep 2025, per Vahan Dashboard data (excluding Telangana and low-speed e-2Ws). Monthly sales peaked in October 2024 (2,19,720) and were lowest in Feb 2025 (1,40,172).

EV penetration in the two-wheeler (2W) category increased from 7.6% in August 2025 to 8.1% in September 2025.

Top players for the month are TVS Motors, Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy.

The top three brands for September 2025, based on the number of electric passenger three-wheelers registered, are Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Ltd., Bajaj Auto, and TVS Motor.

In September 2025, the electric three-wheeler goods sales were led by Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, Bajaj Auto, and Omega Seiki.

The penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) in the four-wheeler passenger car category declined from 5.6% in August to 5.1% in September 2025.

Tata Motors is the clear leader, with over 40% of the market share, followed by JSW MG Motor and Mahindra & Mahindra.

Olectra Greentech sold the most electric buses in September 2025, followed by PMI Electro Mobility and Switch Mobility.

Tata Motors is the clear leader with over 49% market share in e-goods carrier sales in September 2025, followed by Mahindra Last Mile Mobility and Switch Mobility.
