India electric car sales report – CY 2024 | Excerpts

42,02,591 cars were registered in India in CY 2024, of which 1,06,122 were electric.

1,06,122 electric cars were registered in India in CY 2024, up from 93,652 in CY 2023 and 43,121 in CY 2022. In CY 2024, India’s e-4W registration numbers grew 13.3% from the previous year.

% EV penetration in the 4W market was 2.5% in CY 2024, compared to 2.3% in CY 2023.

Of all the E-4Ws sold in CY 2024, nearly 90% were registered as personal cars, while the rest were registered as cabs.

Note – For personal car numbers, the motor car category of the Vahan and Telangana official data banks has been considered. For cab numbers, the luxury cab and motor cab categories of the Vahan and Telangana official data banks have been considered. ‘Electric car’ here refers to BEVs or fully Battery Electric Vehicles.

In CY24 – 3.4% of the 4Ws registered as cabs, and 2.5% of 4Ws registered as personal cars were electric.

Some EV models used in cab services are the TATA Tigor EV, MG ZS EV, BYD e6, Citreon e-c3 and TATA Tiago EV.

Karnataka leads in e-cab registrations, followed by Delhi and Telangana. Maharashtra leads in e-Personal car registrations, followed by Karnataka and Kerala.
