Himadri Speciality Chemical partners with Sicona for silicon-carbon anode technology in India

Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd (BSE: 500184 | NSE: HSCL), a chemical manufacturing company, has entered into an exclusive technology licensing agreement with Sicona Battery Technologies Pty Ltd, an Australian battery materials company focused on developing advanced silicon-carbon anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. The partnership grants Himadri the rights to access, localize, and commercialize Sicona’s Silicon-Carbon (SiCx®) anode technology in India.

Himadri has committed to invest AUD 15 million (approximately INR 81.48 crore in cash) in Sicona through the subscription of Compulsorily Convertible Notes (CCNs). The investment will be made in agreed tranches over 18 months at a subscription price of AUD 1 per CCN. This investment does not confer any additional voting rights or control to Himadri at this stage.

The SiCx® material is designed for integration into existing lithium-ion battery anode formulations, aiming to improve battery energy density and charging performance. According to the companies, when SiCx® is blended with graphite (5–20% proportion), it can increase energy density by approximately 20% and enhance charging performance by around 40%.

Mr. Anurag Choudhary, promoter-director of Himadri, is also a director in Sicona. However, Sicona is not classified as a related party under SEBI Listing Regulations. The transaction is conducted on an arm’s length basis, with no personal interest of promoters in the proposed transaction.

Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Anurag Choudhary, Chairman, Managing Director & CEO of Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd, said: “This partnership marks a turning point in the world’s advanced battery materials journey. Sicona’s SiCx® technology, when used alongside graphite, delivers two core advantages—higher energy density for longer driving range, and faster charging capability that dramatically reduces wait time for EV users. By integrating Sicona’s technological might with Himadri’s proven operational excellence, global scale, and strategic intent, we are creating a blueprint for innovation-led clean energy leadership. This partnership not only enables India to meet domestic EV and energy storage demands, but also makes us an exporter of next-generation battery materials to the world. We are proud to play a pivotal role in shaping a global ecosystem where India is recognized not just as a manufacturing base—but as a hub of advanced material science innovation and energy transformation.”

CEO and Co-Founder of Sicona, Christiaan Jordaan said: “This partnership marks a transformative moment for Sicona and our SiCx® technology. It enables us to commercialize our breakthrough technology at an unprecedented speed and scale. Himadri’s world-class manufacturing capabilities and global presence make them the ideal partner for this journey. We are deeply grateful for their unwavering support to our team, our technology, and our mission.”

As part of the agreement, Sicona will provide technical support, including proprietary know-how, engineering expertise, and quality systems, for setting up a SiCx® production facility. Himadri will handle localization and commercialization, leveraging its experience in scaling chemical and material operations. No regulatory approvals are required, and transaction documents are expected to be executed within 15 business days. The agreement covers both domestic and international operations, with Himadri receiving full technology support from Sicona.

Himadri’s partnership with Sicona aims to localize advanced battery material production in India, reduce import dependence, and support the growth of the electric vehicle and energy storage sectors. The collaboration aligns with Himadri’s strategy to expand in advanced battery materials and clean energy solutions, focusing on addressing performance needs like higher energy density and faster charging times.
