Blackbuck EV Unveils 15-Metre Multi-Axle Electric Sleeper Coach ELON 3X

Hyderabad-based Blackbuck Electric Vehicles has unveiled ELON 3X, a 15-metre multi-axle electric sleeper coach developed for long-distance intercity transportation. The coach will be available with two battery configurations: 425 kWh and 565 kWh, catering to different operating requirements.

Developed in-house in India, ELON 3X features a three-axle configuration with 42 sleeper berths, accommodation for the driver and co-driver, and more than 9 m³ of luggage storage capacity.

ELON 3X is built on Blackbuck EV’s Born-Electric Skateboard Architecture, which integrates the vehicle structure, electric propulsion, energy storage and electrical systems into a single platform. The company has focused on lightweight vehicle design while maintaining passenger capacity and structural requirements.

According to the company, ELON 3X has undergone four years of engineering and product development, including two years of real-world road testing covering vehicle handling, stability, ride comfort, system integration and durability.

The coach features independent suspension, active tag-axle steering and Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS), along with Electronic Braking System (EBS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and disc brakes on all wheels. According to Blackbuck EV, the vehicle has been developed with reference to European automotive standards and international design practices.

Blackbuck EV had first announced ELON 3X in November 2023 as a 13.5-metre, three-axle electric bus, with production initially planned for the end of 2024. The latest unveiling details its 15-metre sleeper coach configuration, with commercial production now targeted for mid-2027.

Blackbuck EV has opened reservations for ELON 3X and is engaging with intercity transport operators ahead of the planned production commencement.
