Amara Raja to explore bringing Nuvation’s 1500 BMS technology to India

Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT), a subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd. (ARE&M), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Nuvation Energy to explore the localization and manufacturing of high-voltage battery management system (BMS) platforms in India.

The MoU was signed at the 12th India Energy Storage Week (IESW) 2026 in New Delhi. The collaboration will initially focus on battery management systems for grid-scale energy storage, commercial and industrial (C&I) applications, and renewable energy integration.

Amara Raja stated that it is expanding its lithium-ion business through a ₹9,500 crore, 16 GWh gigafactory in Telangana, supported by in-house R&D at ePositive Energy Labs. The company’s customer qualification plant is nearing cell production, while work on a 10 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) facility is underway and is expected to be operational later this year.

According to the companies, the partnership aims to combine Nuvation Energy’s high-voltage BMS technology with Amara Raja’s manufacturing capabilities to support battery management system production in India.

Dr. Vikash Venkataramana, Chief Product Officer, ARACT, added, “Battery Management Systems are among the most technologically demanding components in the energy storage value chain, especially as grid-scale storage systems are growing in size and complexity. Our partnership with Nuvation Energy gives us access to proven, globally validated technology that we aim to localize and scale for Indian conditions, supporting the country’s clean energy transition.”

Michael Worry, CEO, Nuvation Energy, said, “India is at the center of one of the world’s most important energy storage stories, and getting the foundations right, starting with the Battery Management System, is essential to building a safe, reliable storage ecosystem at scale. Partnering with Amara Raja allows us to bring 15 years of high-voltage BMS engineering directly into India, alongside a manufacturing partner with the scale and quality discipline to help the country build a truly indigenous storage supply chain.”

ARACT is expanding into lithium-ion cells, battery packs, and battery management systems, while Nuvation Energy develops high-voltage battery management systems for energy storage, industrial, aerospace, marine, and defense applications, with over 15 years of experience in systems up to 1500V DC.
