Charge Zone announces project E-DHARA for renewable-powered EV charging
Charge Zone, an EV charging network headquartered in Vadodara, India, has announced Project E-DHARA (Electrifying and Decarbonizing Highways through Accelerated Renewable Adoption). The initiative aims to transition the company’s charging network to fully renewable energy, beginning with a renewable-powered charging hub in Dahej, Gujarat, scheduled for commissioning in 2025.
Project E-DHARA seeks to reduce dependence on grid electricity generated from fossil fuels, which remain a major part of India’s power mix. The initiative will integrate solar power generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and high-speed charging facilities.
At the Dahej site, ChargeZone plans to install a 1 MW solar plant and a 5 MWh battery storage system. The hub is expected to operate mainly off-grid and will serve as a pilot for a planned rollout of 100 renewable-powered charging hubs along national highways by next year.
Kartikey Hariyani, Founder and CEO of ChargeZone, said “Project E-DHARA represents a pivotal moment in India’s clean energy journey. Electric vehicles have already transformed mobility by eliminating tailpipe emissions, but true decarbonization can only be achieved when the energy that powers them is fully renewable. Through this initiative, ChargeZone is creating an integrated ecosystem that brings together solar generation, advanced battery storage and high-speed charging infrastructure to enable a 100 percent clean-energy highway network. This is more than a technological shift; it is a national energy transition positioning India at the forefront of sustainable mobility. We remain committed to building infrastructure that is future-ready, resilient and aligned with the country’s long-term net-zero vision.”
The project will support charging for passenger EVs and BillionE Mobility’s electric freight trucks. ChargeZone operates an EV charging network in India and the UAE, with over 13,500 charging points across 1,200 locations, and plans to expand to one million points.
