Exponent Energy unveils P4 charging station with 15-minute rapid charging
Bengaluru-based energy tech startup Exponent Energy has introduced its next-generation charging station, code-named P4, based on its 15-minute rapid charging technology. The company stated that the new charger addresses three areas: space efficiency, cable handling, and battery temperature management.
Key features include:
- A wall-style structure, 400 mm in width, aligned with the length of the parked vehicle to minimize use of additional space.
- A 3-axis suspension mechanism that balances the weight of the charging cable and connector and allows automatic retraction.
- Expansion of its previously launched offboard thermal management system to include pre-heating in addition to cooling.
- An application that provides real-time charger location and availability.
The charger provides up to 40 kW of power and is being deployed in Indian cities for use by vehicle manufacturers including Montra Electric (Murugappa Group) and Omega Seiki Mobility.
According to Exponent, the connector is built with a metal casing and uses spring-compressed axial seals, similar to those in LPG and CNG dispensing, for coolant flow. The design allows operation under varied conditions, including underwater. The internal system includes airflow optimization to reduce noise and a layout intended to improve reliability at scale.
Commenting on the launch, Arun Vinayak, Co-founder & CEO of Exponent Energy, said, “At Exponent everything starts from design thinking. Design is not about aesthetics, but about re-thinking everything from a 1st principles basis to deliver better on Engineering and Economics. We made a conscious decision to launch our earlier charger as an MVP to learn from the field about real-world usage and challenges. We brought all those learnings together in the new charger. Charge time and battery life is what we’re known for today, but our larger vision to deliver a 360 degree simplified energy experience – from how easy it is to fin a charger, to the seamlessness and reliability of the mating experience and to how payments just work. This charger is the first step towards that.”
Founded in 2020, Exponent Energy develops battery packs, charging stations, and connectors designed for rapid charging. The company reports its systems are used in more than 2,000 EVs in India, with over 800,000 charging sessions completed, covering 50 million kilometers. In 2024, it launched a 1 MW charging system for buses.
In 2025, the World Economic Forum named Exponent Energy to its “Technology Pioneers” list, which recognizes early-stage companies working on technological innovation.
Exponent has raised $44.6 million through multiple funding rounds, backed by investors such as TDK Ventures, Lightspeed, Eight Roads Ventures, YourNest VC, 3one4 Capital, AdvantEdge VC, Motherson Group, and the family office of Hero MotoCorp’s Pawan Munjal.
