Tata debuts ‘acti.ev’ architecture for EVs| unveils Punch.ev
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) launched its first Pure EV architecture, ‘acti.ev,’ (pronounced as active, acti.ev stands for Advanced Connected Tech-Intelligent Electric Vehicle) with Punch.ev as the inaugural product. Subsequent products from TPEM stable will be built using this architecture. Punch.ev bookings are open from 5th January 2024 at Tata Motors showrooms or online with a payment of ₹21,000.
Mr. Anand Kulkarni, Chief Products Officer, Head of HV Programs and Customer Service, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., stated that acti.ev is an indigenous Pure EV architecture, aiming to set trends in India’s growing EV market. The architecture prioritizes efficiencies, space utilization, battery capacity, and overall driving experience. acti.ev is designed to be globally applicable, emphasizing software-oriented features for technological advancement and future adaptability. He also added, “With this, we are doubly excited to announce the unveiling of the first product made on this advanced, multi-layered architecture – the Punch.ev. The Punch.ev is our introduction to the next generation of EVs from TPEM. As has been the case with our current portfolio of EV products, we are confident that future products made on the acti.ev architecture will continue to spark delight in our ever growing community.”
The acti.ev architecture focuses on Performance, Technology, Modularity, and Space Efficiency across four layers:
Layer 1 – Powertrain: acti.ev features an optimized battery pack design with cells meeting advanced global standards, resulting in a 10% improvement in energy density. The design offers multiple range options (300 km ~ 600 km) and allows modularity in choosing drivetrain options (AWD, RWD, FWD). The architecture supports 7.2kW to 11kW onboard charger for AC fast charging and up to 150kW DC fast charging, providing approximately 100 km range in 10 minutes.
Layer 2 – Chassis: The second layer accommodates various body styles with a reinforced body structure meeting future safety protocols. acti.ev maximizes cabin space with a flat floor and added frunk, improving occupant space. A lower center of gravity enhances driving dynamics and handling.
Layer 3 – Electrical Architecture: acti.ev is a scalable architecture with higher computing power and ADAS level 2 capabilities. It is ready for ADAS L2+ capabilities, ensuring safety and navigation standards. 5G readiness allows advanced network speeds, supporting Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle Charging (V2V) technology.
Layer 4 – Cloud Architecture: The cloud architecture is scalable and future-ready, with an enhanced user experience. It includes Arcade.ev, an in-car app suite. acti.ev features solutions for superior connectivity and advanced over-the-air updates for software and features.
