Electric Vehicles Category-wise Sales Trend
India’s total automotive sales in Q2 FY25-26 were 58,12,833, of which 5,80,664 were EVs, which means 9.98% EV penetration in the quarter for all automotive sales.

‘Goods Carrier’ refers to 4W cargo vehicles, including LCVs and HGVs, as categorised in Vahan dashboard. ‘E-rickshaw’ refers to low-speed electric 3Ws (up to 25 kmph) used for passenger transportation. ‘E-cart’ designates low-speed electric 3Ws (up to 25 kmph) used for goods transportation.
- The total number of electric vehicles sold in India from Q3 FY 24-25 to Q2 FY 25-26 (the last four quarters) is 22,38,096 units. The number of EVs sold in Q2 FY25-26 was 5,80,664.
- Electric vehicle sales are dominated by 2Ws and 3Ws, with a combined volume share of almost 89.7% among all vehicle segments in Q2 FY 25-26.
- For e-2Ws, sales increased by 4.37% in Q2 FY 25-26 over the last quarter, while e-2W YoY sales increased by 7.84% (23,732 units).
- e-Rickshaw, e-Cart, e-3W Goods L5, and e-Bus categories registered a QoQ decline of 4.07%, 14.45%, 1.41% and 6.17% respectively. The rest of the categories witnessed a QoQ growth, including a notable 68.57% growth in the e-Goods Carrier category.
- e-Goods Carrier sales witnessed the highest YoY growth of 158.92% (3,309 units), among all other segments. Looking at more YoY changes, e-4W and e-3W Pax L5 witnessed growth of 155.73% and 66.93% respectively, in Q2 FY 25-26 compared to Q2 FY 24-25.

- In Q2 2025-26, the penetration of electric vehicles in the 3W passenger category reached an impressive 32.6%, up from 30.98% penetration in Q1 2025-26.
- EV penetration in the 3W cargo category stands at 22.7% in Q2 2025-26, up from 22.39% in Q1.
- EV Penetration for 2Ws increased, accounting for 7.8% of total 2W sales in India in Q2 2025-26 as compared to 6.3% in the last quarter.
- EV penetration in the 4W segment increased to 5.7% of total 4W sales in India in Q2 2025-26. EV penetration in the Bus sales increased to 5.1% in Q2 FY 25-26 from 4.96% in Q1.
