Montra Electric to open eHCV (Trucks) manufacturing facility in Manesar
Montra Electric HCV (IPL Tech), a clean mobility brand of the Murugappa Group, will inaugurate its eHCV (electric heavy commercial vehicle) manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana.
The plant will include India’s first all-women, fully automated battery production unit and the use of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) integrated with conveyor lines for production. Spread across 255,000 square feet, with a built-up area of 150,000 square feet, the facility will have an installed capacity of 6,000 units per annum on a two-shift basis, scalable up to 7,500 units with additional shifts. It has been designed to manufacture multiple product variants, including the Rhino EV series and upcoming models.
The unit will feature 60 percent robotics integration and Industry 4.0 digital manufacturing practices. It will also include an in-house battery pack assembly capacity of 1.7 GWh, along with testing infrastructure such as E&E labs, QA labs, battery pack cyclers, roll and brake testers, wheel alignment systems, headlamp aiming, and shower testing facilities. R&D and prototype workshops will also be part of the facility. Montra Electric plans to source 74 percent of components locally, excluding imported cells.
The Manesar plant will integrate sustainability measures such as battery recycling, waste management, and in-house charging infrastructure. Future expansion phases are planned to include renewable energy. The company also intends to run community engagement initiatives such as skilling programs and environmental campaigns.
Commenting on the inauguration, Mr. P.V. Satyanarayana, Chief Business Officer, Montra Electric HCV (IPL Tech), said, “The inauguration of our EV truck factory in Manesar marks a defining step in India’s transition to sustainable logistics. This state-of-the-art facility combines scale, flexibility, and world-class quality, with modular lines capable of producing multiple variants and advanced digital manufacturing tools. By fostering inclusivity through our all-women battery line and driving high localization, we are setting new benchmarks for innovation, employment, and green mobility. We are confident this factory will emerge as a hub that powers the future of mobility in India for years to come.”
The company will apply for benefits under the PM E-Drive Scheme and explore additional state-level incentives for its manufacturing expansion.
