Electric vehicle sales in India showed a mixed trend in January 2026 compared to December 2025. E2W sales increased to 1,22,477 units from 97,977, while E4W rose to 18,055 from 15,626. E3W L5 Passenger also grew marginally to 20,554 from 20,340, and E3W L5 Cargo/Goods increased to 3,117 from 2,897. E-carts edged up to 7,654 from 7,608, and E-Goods Carrier sales rose to 1,639 from 1,396. However, e-rickshaw sales declined to 44,439 units from 57,432, while e-bus sales fell to 391 from 569.

India recorded 23,19,267 EV sales from Feb 2025 to Jan 2026, per Vahan Dashboard data (excluding Telangana and low-speed e-2Ws). Monthly sales peaked in October 2025 (2,36,701) and were lowest in February 2025 (1,40,166).

The penetration percentage of electric vehicles (EVs) in the two-wheeler (2W) category decreased from 7.4% in Dec 2025 to 6.6% in Jan 2026.

In Jan 2026, the electric three wheeler goods sales were led by Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, Bajaj Auto, and Omega Seiki.

Tata Motors is the clear leader, with over 43% of the market share, followed by JSW MG Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra.

Tata Motors is the clear leader with over 40% market share in e-goods carrier sales in January 2026, followed by Euler Motors and Mahindra Last Mile Mobility.
