India ICE vs EV sales | For top 2W, 3W, 4W OEMs in December 2025
In December 2025, the overall penetration of EVs in the 2W market was 7.4%. For passenger 3W L5 autos, it was 39.9%, and for cargo 3W L5 autos, it was 25.8% and for 4W, it was 4%. This article aims to showcase where EV sales stand compared to the overall vehicle sales in the 2W, 3W, and 4W categories.

Top Indian OEMs – 2W Sales | ICE vs EV, Dec 2025

In December 2025, India’s two-wheeler market remained largely ICE-driven, with Honda Motorcycle leading overall sales at 3,56,128 units, though EVs formed just 0.1% (271 units). Hero MotoCorp followed with 2,90,813 units and an EV share of 3.7% (10,703 units), while TVS Motor recorded 25,037 EVs, accounting for 9.4% of its 2,65,707 units. Bajaj Auto posted the highest EV penetration among legacy OEMs at 13.6% (18,798 EVs) out of 1,38,012 units, whereas Royal Enfield, Suzuki Motorcycle, and India Yamaha reported only ICE sales. Pure EV players Ather Energy (17,058 units), Ola Electric (9,021 units), and Ampere Vehicles (4,753 units) continued to record 100% EV sales, highlighting the contrast between traditional OEMs and electric-only manufacturers.

In December 2025, Bajaj Auto led the three-wheeler passenger market with 30,465 units, with EVs accounting for 22.7% (6,926 units) of its sales. Mahindra Last Mile Mobility showed strong electrification, recording 6,648 EVs, translating to a 97% EV share out of 6,857 units. Piaggio Vehicles sold 5,034 units with 24.6% EV (1239 units) penetration, while TVS Motor reported a higher EV mix at 56.4% (2,831 EVs) from 5,019 units. Atul Auto remained largely ICE-focused, with EVs forming 18.3% (205 units) of its 1,118 units. Pure-play EV manufacturers TI Clean Mobility (644 units), Omega Seiki (442 units), and Saera Electric (408 units) continued to post 100% EV sales, underscoring the growing role of dedicated electric OEMs in the segment.

In December 2025, Bajaj Auto led the three-wheeler cargo (L5) segment with 4,600 units, with EVs accounting for 9.8% (450 units) of its sales. Atul Auto recorded 1,373 units with a relatively higher EV share of 17.2% (236 units), while Piaggio Vehicles remained largely ICE-driven, with EVs forming just 3.5% (87 units) of its 2,500 units. Mahindra Last Mile Mobility stood out with the highest EV penetration among mixed OEMs at 59.9% (539 EVs) from 900 units. In contrast, MLR Auto reported minimal electrification at 2.3%. Pure-play EV manufacturers Omega Seiki (317 units), Euler Motors (251 units), and Green Evolve (125 units) continued to post 100% EV sales, underscoring their strong focus on electric cargo three-wheelers.

In December 2025, passenger vehicle sales were led by Maruti Suzuki with 1,50,019 units, though EV penetration remained negligible at 0.01% (9 units). Tata Motors recorded the highest EV volumes among mass OEMs, with 6,457 EVs, accounting for 12.4% of its 52,025 units, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra, where EVs formed 6.5% (3,084 units) of total sales. JSW MG Motor stood out with the highest EV share at 85.2% (3,558 EVs) from 4,177 units, while BMW India also showed notable electrification with an EV mix of 21.8%. In contrast, Hyundai (0.5%) and Kia India (1.5%) reported limited EV penetration, and Toyota Kirloskar, Skoda Auto Volkswagen, Honda Cars, Renault India, and Nissan Motor remained entirely ICE-driven during the month.

In December 2025, EV penetration increased across most vehicle categories compared to both November 2025 and December 2024. Two-wheelers recorded an EV share of 7.4%, up from 4.6% in November and 6.2% a year ago. Three-wheeler L5M (passenger) continued to lead electrification with 39.9% EV penetration, marginally higher than 38% in November and significantly above 27.9% in December 2024. Three-wheeler L5N (cargo) EV share rose to 25.8%, compared to 20.3% in November and 23.3% last year. Passenger four-wheelers saw EV penetration inch up to 4% from 3.9% in November and 3.1% in December 2024, while goods carriers reached 1.9%, improving from 1.6% in November and 0.7% a year earlier, indicating a gradual but broad-based rise in EV adoption.
