C4V and Trot Solutions tie up to develop sustainable ports in India

On July 9th, 2023, an MOU was signed between C4V, a US-based company specializing in advanced energy storage technologies, and Trot Solutions, a UAE-based company that offers infrastructure solutions for ports, shipping, and logistics. The companies aim to develop and convert green, self-sustainable ports in India by creating renewable plus storage solutions to meet port energy demands.

Under this collaboration, the focus is on creating renewable energy solutions integrated with energy storage to meet the power demands of ports, especially during peak hours.

The main points outlined in the MOU are as follows:

Development of Green Ports: The collaboration aims to develop new green ports and convert existing ports into green, self-sustainable ones. The choice of green power sources, such as solar and wind, along with energy storage solutions, will depend on the climatic and geological conditions of each port.

Support for Port Equipment and E-mobility: Reinforcing eco-friendly power sources to power port equipment, including e-mobility solutions like port container cranes (RTG or RMG cranes), trailers, forklifts, and port trucks.

Electrification: Small supply vessels, tugs, and pilot vessels will be electrified, replacing diesel with battery-powered solutions.

Roles and Responsibilities:

C4V’s Role: C4V will be responsible for providing customized solutions to the port operators based on their daily and peak power demands. They will undertake the complete engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of solar installations, connecting them to batteries and integrating the entire system with the grid to make the port self-sustainable. The choice of power sources, such as tidal energy, solar energy, or wind power, will depend on the specific climatic conditions at each port.

Trot Solutions’ Role: Trot Solutions will act as the developer for the projects, drawing from their experience working with major port operators globally, such as AP Moller, DP World, Singapore ports, and J M Bakshi and globally in Salala, Duqm in Oman, Jeddah In Saudi, and In UAE. They will utilize their expertise in operations and maintenance of port equipment to understand the energy/power requirements of various equipment.

Timelines:

The collaboration has initiated negotiations with DP World and AP Moller teams for a project at the JNPT port in Maharashtra. The pre-feasibility study proposals are underway, and the aim is to commence the project at JNPT by the end of 2023.

Globally, both teams are already working with port operators in Oman and Saudi Arabia. DP World operates the majority of ports worldwide, with 100+ ports under its management, followed by A P Moller. The ultimate goal of the collaboration is to transform 50% of ports in India into self-sustainable, environmentally-friendly facilities, which includes converting existing ports with plans to implement green, self-sustainable port solutions by 2030, said an official statement.

Mr Kuldeep Gupta, President (Strategic Partnership) at C4V, shared his excitement about the collaboration, saying, “India is a key market for C4V enjoying a coastline of 7500KM where many of Seaports still need to be developed and more power will be required which could be delivered via Green Energy+ Energy Storage solutions. C4V has successfully deployed its technology in Energy Storage, E-mobility and is now excited to help develop Green & self-sustainable ports in India with Trot Solutions.  Our advanced battery solutions will enable ports to reduce their carbon footprint and play an important role in achieving the vision of the Honorable Prime Minister of Green India by 2030.”

Speaking on this occasion, Managing Director Mr Rizwan Ali Trot  Solutions expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are delighted to collaborate with C4V to drive green energy adoption in our ports and contribute to the sustainable development of our maritime sector. This partnership will reduce the burden over grid and will enable power in rural areas.”
