JSW Greentech Deploys First 100 AMPSTAR 55T Electric Tractor Trucks for JSW Cement

JSW Greentech Limited, the electric commercial vehicle arm of the JSW Group, has announced the deployment of 100 AMPSTAR 4×2 55-tonne electric tractor trucks for industrial freight operations at JSW Cement’s Vijayanagar facility. The deployment will be supported by JSW Eco-Mobility as the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) provider and Paradeep Parivahan Limited as the logistics partner.

The AMPSTAR 4×2 and 6×4 electric tractor trucks have also received certification under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), confirming compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

The AMPSTAR 4×2 55T tractor truck has a peak power output of 430 kW and peak torque of 2,600 Nm. The deployment follows the unveiling of the AMPSTAR brand a little over a month ago. The 100 electric tractor trucks will transport clinker and slag along an approximately 330-km corridor connecting Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh and Vijayanagar in Karnataka. The operation is expected to handle around 1.25 lakh tonnes of cargo per month.

AMPSTAR vehicles will be manufactured at JSW Greentech’s greenfield facility under development across approximately 90 acres at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The facility is planned to have an annual production capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks, with an automated truck-cabin production line and an integrated battery ecosystem. The company also operates an R&D centre in Pune.

JSW Greentech offers electric commercial vehicles with power configurations ranging from 150 kW to 500 kW. Its business model includes outright vehicle purchases, leasing and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS), alongside charging infrastructure, financing and after-sales support. Following the tractor-truck range, the company plans to introduce electric tippers and fixed-body dumpers.

JSW Eco-Mobility, a subsidiary of JSW Greentech, will support the fleet through a dedicated logistics corridor equipped with four battery-swapping stations between Nandyal and Vijayanagar. According to the company, the operation is expected to save approximately 4.5 crore litres of diesel and avoid around 6,250 tonnes of CO₂ emissions over the contract period. Incorporated in 2024, JSW Greentech manufactures electric buses and trucks under the AMPSTAR brand and operates an R&D centre in Pune.

“The 55T electric tractor truck, first showcased at our AMPSTAR brand launch, represents one of the most demanding vehicle architectures in commercial transportation. In just over a month, we have reached a significant milestone, with the first 100 trucks being deployed for JSW Cement’s industrial freight movement, supported by JSW Eco-Mobility as Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) partner. With this, we are building an integrated electric mobility ecosystem, including a dedicated electric corridor with battery-swapping stations to enable the seamless movement of materials. This deployment brings together our full stack electric mobility solution to make electric heavy-duty transportation commercially viable. Our ambition with AMPSTAR is to be a catalyst in transforming how businesses move goods across India. These first 100 trucks mark an important step towards that vision” said Sumit Mittal, CEO, JSW Greentech Limited.

“At JSW Cement, we are committed to building more sustainable and efficient industrial operations. The deployment of 100 AMPSTAR electric trucks marks an important step towards decarbonising our logistics operations while supporting the movement of materials across our supply chain. With an integrated electric mobility solution backed by battery-swapping infrastructure, we aim to reduce our dependence on diesel, lower emissions and advance our sustainability objectives without compromising operational efficiency” said Narinder Kahlon, Director Finance, JSW Cement.
